Kinematics Kit is used for qualitative and quantitative study of Motion laws such as uniform motion and variable motion with a 100cm length,16mm width ‘U’ shaped grooved track for smooth movement of spheres.The track includes an 25cm length inclined section and a 75cm length straight section.This Kinematics Kit is mainly made of an aluminum alloy with a 90cm yellow scale divided into nine equal parts. The photogates on the straight track can be freely moved to any position and can be easily read against the bright yellow scale.The track is fixed on a solid bracket and can be easily adjusted to true level by means of the two leveling bolts on the bracket.A special photogate pair and electromagnet pre-wired to a cable harness are supplied, making electrical setup simple. Just plug the harness into the rear panel of a digital timer (download).
A steel ball in 22mm diameter is attracted by an electromagnet,which can be moved to any position on the inclined track. The ball is released by a switch on the digital timer (download)to allow motion on the track. During its scroll, the digital timer (download) captures the speed and motion time to the first photogate and the speed and time to pass through the next. Friction is defined as the force that resists relative motion between the surfaces in contact when they move past each other. Friction is caused due to irregularities on the two surfaces in contact. when one object moves over the other, these irregularities on the surface get entangled, giving rise to friction. The greater the roughness, the more irregularities and the more significant will be the friction.Friction is helpful in most cases. As a force, friction depends on two external factors. One, Friction is dependent on the smoothness or roughness of the two surfaces between in contact with each other. When the surface is smooth, the friction decreases. While the surface is rough, the friction increases.The other, friction depends on the force that is acting on these surfaces.Friction increases when the force is applied along with the irregularities.There are four types of friction: Static friction, Sliding friction, Rolling friction and Fluid friction. Static friction is the friction that acts between the surfaces when they are at rest with respect to each other.In contrast, sliding friction is the resistance created between any two objects when sliding against each other. Free Fall Apparatus is designed for studying and measuring the acceleration of gravity.
Experiment procedure: A steel ball is suspended with an electromagnet. The ball is released by a switch on the digital timer (download)to allow the free fall motion. During its descent (or “free fall”), the only force acting on the ball is the force of gravity. The digital timer (download) displays the fall time to the first photogate and the time to pass through the gate after the experimental run. Acceleration of the free fall motion of the steel ball is captured by moveable photogates and recorded by the digital timer (download). The steel ball which is caught after the free fall in a catcher (pocket) at the bottom of the post.
