Tomorrow is a teacher development day for my school and I have been tasked with putting together links for the teachers to learn more about queer students and identities and how to support them, especially trans and nobinary students. i’m actually pleasantly surprised. i’ve started the teacher ed program, and they have an entire, major course that dedicated purely to “diversity” -- specifically it targets systemic racism and how its built into the school system and how teachers need to be conscious of that and actively work against it, but it also deals with homophobia, transphobia, oppression of religious minorities, as well as what culture and personal identity means, etc. also the indigenization of education is a huge giant fucking theme in not just that course but throughout the entire program. nice.
reading a textbook and watching the author use three singular they’s in a row, only to cap it with a “his/her”. Not only are you letting your pronouns flux in the middle of a thought, which is sloppy af, but, like, you’ve already established that singular they works just fine so why go back to that stupid ugly clunky archaic bullshit

The face you make when your visible thinking lesson goes SO WELL and immediately after you find out you got accepted to teach the IB workshop for IB Geography in Houston this fall!!!! I’m honestly a little flabbergasted and also slightly panicked because this is a huge deal. Teaching teachers is no joke, even if it’s only for a weekend. But! Mostly excited!!!
so far my understanding of being a teacher is that it’s only about 10% knowing actual course content, and about 30% getting them to pay attention long enough to share that content and 60% teaching them how to be human beings
