The first workshop I offered was for free. I was new to the country (Germany, where I currently live), I had no network and also no one really knew me. I was positive that I could teach lettering, but I hadn’t done this before. My line of thought was straight forward: ⠀ 1. If no one had to pay for it, no one would complain if the workshop was bad.⠀ 2. This will give me better chances to have the workshop booked out, and try myself at teaching lettering.⠀ ⠀ Workshop was successful and attendees were happy. For the first time I felt something that is what today keeps me teaching, and organizing my own workshops in and outside Berlin: I felt that everyone were leaving the room with a certain level of enlightening. Through this experience, they could see things that they couldn’t see before when working with typography, and they could use that for their creative work. Some of them, even left the room inspired and motivated!⠀ ⠀ Now, these feedback is still what keeps me teaching, plus the fact that many of you keep showing to the world the things you’ve created after attending one of my workshops, taking one of my online classes, or reading my books. This makes the world to me, and is the motivation behind what I currently do, and the plans I have for the future. ⠀ ⠀ I teach online and offline, two very different experiences for both, the student and the teacher.
