Filter paper chromatography is fun but the usual way of dipping papers marked with black ink into water is too slow for under fives. I found that the process is far more exciting if a wet paintbrush is dabbed onto circles of felt tip on coffee filter papers. Then it has more of a ‘wow’ effect! But don’t just stop at black!
