Jimi Hendrix Way to Run Through New York City
- Renaming ceremony slated for Feb. 24
Jimi Hendrix Way will soon cut through Greenwich Village.
New York City officials will rename a portion West Eight Street near Electric Lady Studios, which Hendrix opened in 1970, for the guitarist during a ceremony planned for Feb. 24.
Rolling Stone magazine reported the news.
The event will serve as the launch of TeachRock’s “Jimi Hendrix: Rock’s Trailblazing Innovator and Influential Guitarist.” The lesson delves into Hendrix’s blues and R&B roots.
“Jimi Hendrix didn’t just play guitar - he reimagined what art could be,” Stevie Van Zandt, who will speak at the unveiling, said in a statement.
“I want TeachRock to transport students into that same sense of possibility and discovery I felt the first time I saw Jimi perform. His story, lyrics and sound remind young people that creativity has no limits.”
