Full color commission for @carn-project for their new RWBY AU!
Young Сinder and Adam, Beacon's freshmen students (and also teammates) visit a shawarma cafe in Vale. Actually, it's Cinder who takes Adam there! He doesn't look very pleased tho...
The CARN project will focus on a team of Cinder, Adam, Roman, and Neo at Beacon. It has just started publishing here on Tumblr, so keep an eye on it if you're interested 😉
His opponent’s weapon was drawn, their finger inches from the trigger, and Xanthos knew he had just a few moments to get together. In his own hands, he held Solaris Splendour, his grip loosening ever so slightly as he pondered his next move.
“What are you going to do, Ravindra?” Came the mocking tone of Chester Porfirio. The ginger-haired man in front of him, had his head tilted, a playful smirk on his lips. Behind his ginger tail swept from side to side. “I think I’ve got you beat.”
“Don’t count him out just yet!” Neela called out from behind him, suddenly jumping into view. Chester glanced up briefly, shifting his attention from Xanthos to her; just as Xanthos caught him beginning to mouth “Wha-” Neela was quick to put her semblance into play, filling the area around them with a thick fog, and giving the pair of them time to duck behind cover.
As the pair of them leaned against the block that was giving them cover, Xanthos gave her a playful shove. “You took your time.” He grinned.
“I was taking care of Rue for you, you ass,” Neela fired back.
“Oh yeah, I forget she can go super quiet. Kinda spooky actually,” Xanthos rambled. “Did she put up much of a fight?”
“She’s in the year above us, so what do you think?” Neela began to say. A few seconds later, Xanthos noted her gaze drifted off elsewhere, to the viewing box where Zelde and the rest of team CARN were watching this little spar play out. Almost preemptively guessing what Zelde might have said at that moment, Neela was quick to steer the conversation back on track. “But maybe we should focus on dealing with Chester, eh?”
Xanthos gave a quick nod and the two moved in for the attack. Neela was first, jumping over the block they were using as cover, in an attempt to rush Chester, who had become disoriented from Neela’s now fading semblance.
“Hey, Chessmaster, watch your back!” Neela teased, as she ran into him with her elbow, making him stumble. When he straightened himself up, he was too distracted by attempting to shout back to Neela that he didn’t see Xanthos rushing up behind him.
He lashed out with his weapon as precisely as he could without giving away his presence, aiming it so that the whip would curl around one of Chester’s ankles. Now all he had to do was pull and the tower would crumble.
Running forward on the opposite side of Chester, Xanthos would come to a stop beside Neela. With his free hand, he gave Chester a small wave. “Yeah, Chester, you really should have been watching you back.” And with that, he pulled, taking Chester down. With the last of their opponents taken down, the training session was called to an end. Rue didn’t linger long, disappearing out of the training room with Akari and Niall. Chester lingered a little longer if only to give Neela and Xanthos a withering look before departing with his the rest of his teammates.
“No need to look so sour!” Xanthos called out after him. “Next time we promise to go easier on you.”
“When I see Tilia next, I’ll tell her I can still beat your ass!” Neela followed in.
“Really you two?” Came an exasperated sigh from behind them. The two of them turned to see Zelde approaching, and gave her a small dip of acknowledgement when she stood in front of them “I didn’t know we were resulting to gloating now.”
“What can I say, it was a very heated battle,” Xanthos said in way of response. The look Zelde shot him, seemed to hint that she wasn’t impressed with his answer, so he was quick to try and guide the conversation away from that. “So what did you think of our performance?”
“You started off well, I'll give you that,” Zelde mused. “But you both got sloppy near the end, especially you, Ravi. You should count yourself lucky that CARN is friends with us, I doubt any real enemy would go so easy on you.”
Both Xanthos and Neela seemed to tense at her words. Xanthos noted that they couldn’t have been hiding it very well, as Zelde eased her stance and shot them an apologetic glance. A moment later, he features shifted to a more neutral expression. “Well, anyway, if you’re done, please go and get changed and meet me at the docking bay when you’re ready. Our transport leaves in twenty minutes.”

Thirty minutes later, three of the four members of ZRCN found themselves safely arrived in Mantle, about to reunite with the fourth member of their team.
None of them had seen Cordovan in person after returned from Shizukana. They visited him once in the hospital when they had returned, but that had been it for face-to-face contact. Not that Xanthos could really fault him for his privacy after what had happened to him, and the extreme physical therapy regime he was put on.
Even Xanthos, a sociable creature at heart, was certain he’d have been able to face his peers.
Neela and Zelde lead the way to Cordovan’s house, talking openly about how they thought he’d be faring now. Xanthos trailed behind them, listening to the conversation, but seemingly more focused on adjusting his beanie.
When they arrived at Cordovan’s house, Zelde drew them to a stop outside.
“I know neither are you are stupid, but I’m going to remind you to be mindful of what you say around Cordovan.”
Neela nodded swiftly, but Xanthos found himself tilting his head in questioning. “Why do I feel like that was aimed more at me?”
“Because it’s you, Ravi,” Neela laughed, elbowing Xanthos playfully. “If anyone is going to accidentally say something inappropriate it’ll be you.”
Xanthos clutched at his chest, and feigned offence, turning his nose up in mock disgust. “You wound me deeply, Miss Oxford.”
Zelde was quick to knock on the door soon after, and they were greeted by Wren, who welcomed them inside warmly. It was a little odd not to see her in Specialist uniform, or even with her hair up, but she was no less lovely.
“How’s he doing?” Neela asked, trying to sneak a glance into the living room, where their friend was waiting.
“He’s doing much better,” Wren answered with a nod. “It’s been a hard road, and we’ve both had to deal with some other things alongside his recovery, but we’re finally in a good place again.” Xanthos quirked his brow at the mention of other things but didn’t think it appropriate to ask about that given the situation. “He’s not back to how he was, and in truth, I doubt he ever will be, but it’s good to see him in good spirits again.” She stopped speaking again to wipe away a single tear which rolled down her cheek. She sniffed before mustering a small smile. “Why don’t you go in and see him? He’s been eager to see you all again.”
Zelde certainly didn’t need any further prompting to enter the living room and was the first to enter, followed by Neela, and then himself. As he stepped in and got a good look at Cordovan, he had to force himself not to express his surprise.
Cordovan was standing and walking. With what little information Cordovan had been giving them over their scrolls, none of them had no idea how well his therapy was going, though had known about him receiving a prosthetic at least. Whilst Neela and Xanthos held back, Zelde was quick to move towards Cordovan and embrace him warmly. It did not go unnoticed by Neela nor Xanthos how close they lingered together when they parted.
“It’s good to see you again, Cor,” Neela smiled, going in for a hug.
“You too, Neela,” Cordovan said, returning the hug.
Xanthos coughed. “Okay, Bluebell, move over. Leave some Cordovan for the rest of us.”
Neela groaned and parted from their teammate, and Cordovan chuckled. “Ah, Ravi, I’m surprised to admit I’ve missed your quips.”
“You have?” Xanthos asked, covering his mouth with his hands. “That’s the nicest thing I’ve heard all day. I could kiss you.”
And then he lunged, practically throwing himself at Cordovan as he moved in for a hug. In truth, he slightly misjudged how much force he had behind him, and could hear Zelde and Neela both gasping when he nearly knocked Cordovan over.
“Ravi, be careful,” Zelde warned.
“It’s alright, Zelde,” Cordovan said, waving her off slightly. “I’m fine.”
He and Xanthos remained in a hug for a few seconds longer, before breaking away. “It suits you, you know?”
Cordovan blinked. “What does?”
“The slightly shaggier hair and the beard,” Xanthos responded.
“Oh, I see,” Cordovan mumbled. There was something in his tone that made Xanthos feel as though he had said something he shouldn’t have, but Cordovan was quick to brush it aside.
Moving away from Xanthos, he gestured to the empty sofa, before taking a seat himself. He waited for the rest of his teammates to sit down before speaking again. “I think we have a lot to catch up on. Shall we begin?”
Cinder's mentor took the blame for the murder of her foster family upon himself, demanding that in return she enroll in Beacon and use the skills he taught her to protect humanity. But who could have known that it would be so hard! Instead of the usual team, Cinder became the leader of a group consisting of a misanthropic faunus with a dark past and two thieves in love with each other. They are the most problematic team at Beacon. They're criminals who belong in prison. But Ozpin sees them as the hope of humanity.
This is the announcement of a new AU. For me, the first one. Today, almost ten people, including several artists, are working on the project. CARN is an illustrated fanfic, the events of which begin three years before the events of the canon.
Adam was born in the Kngdom of Atlas. He early lost his mother, who raised him alone. After the death of his only relative, he ended up in an orphanage. He was soon adopted by a family of SDC workers. As it turned out, the corporation practiced this in order to obtain literally slave power. Adopted children were almost immediately sent to the mines, where they had to work on an equal basis with adults, extracting dust. Because of their small size, children could fit where adults could not. They were poorly fed, and they were hardly allowed to sleep or rest. They did not receive any education, because it was believed that slaves did not need it.
Most of the child slaves died after months or years of work, but Adam was comparatively lucky. He spent almost ten years in the mines and managed to survive. However, during this time, his body was covered with scars due to beatings and bullying by human employees. He also lost two nails on his right hand.
One day, an administrator who hated faunus was appointed to the mine where Adam worked. His favorite hobby was branding slaves, whom he perceived as cattle. As punishment for a small mistake, he, along with several other employees, mutilated Adam's face, putting a brand on his left eye. Due to the injury, Adam partially lost sight in his left eye. He has retained the ability to see with them, but even opening his eyes is painful for him. The pain experienced by Taurus at that moment was so intense that he revealed his semblance and managed to escape, hiding aboard a SDC ship bound for Mistral with a cargo of dust.
The transport Adam was on board was shot down from a man portable air defence system by members of the Branwen tribe in order to seize the cargo he was transporting. Adam was lucky to survive, and although the bandits wanted to kill him, their leader, Raven Branwen, stood up for him. Seeing the potential in Adam, she accepted him into the tribe and began to train him, hoping that he would become a good warrior and benefit them. It was Raven who gave Adam his blade, which she took from the slain hunter. However, after a few years, she noticed that Taurus wasn't too interested in being part of the clan and didn't share her views, so Raven left him alone. This only added fuel to the fire of hatred for humanity raging in his heart and led him to consider all people either traitors or enemies.
In Mistral, Adam created a small group of faunus who fought for their rights. Adam drew the attention of the leadership of the nascent organization White Fang, which fought for the rights of faunus. Although his methods, such as destroying the property of racists, seemed unnecessarily cruel to the leader of the organization, many other members of the White Fang approved of them. Adam was invited to the White Fang and he gladly agreed, bringing the members of his group there as well. Thanks to the outstanding fighting skills Raven taught him, he quickly gained a high position working as a bodyguard for the leader of the organization, Ghira Belladonna. Hiding his scar and fearing to appear weak, he began wearing the same mask as Raven. Later, these masks would become the most recognizable element of White Fang's uniform.
One day, White Fang attacked slavers who were abducting faunus for the SDC. Attempts to resolve the issue without bloodshed failed and bullets flew at the faunus. Adam was able to neutralize most of the slavers, but the last one was accidentally killed by him. This infuriated the leader of the organization, Ghira Belladonna, who felt that because of this, the White Fang were recognized as radicals. He succeeded in expelling Adam, also taking credit for the fact that they did not arrest him, but gave him the opportunity to leave.
Disappointed in White Fang, Adam, along with several faunus who left the organization with him, decided to fight against racism using armed methods. They set themselves the goal of eliminating a number of the most influential businessmen and politicians of racist views. Everything went well at first. The rich throughout Remnant, fearing for their lives, abandoned anti-faunus rhetoric and lifted bans on faunus visiting their establishments. However, as a result of the first attempt on Jacques Schnee, Adam lost one of his fighters. Seeking revenge, he began to launch more and more risky and violent attacks, thinking less about plans for retreat. As a result, during the second assassination attempt on Jacques Schnee, which took place in Vale, he was seriously injured and collapsed on the balcony of an apartment belonging, as it turned out, to the director of Beacon, Professor Ozpin. He saved Adam and healed his wounds, but in return demanded to join his academy. He saved Adam and healed his wounds, but in return demanded to join his academy, saying that Taurus would help faunus much better by protecting them from the Grimm.
