Happy Halloween!
(Click for better quality.)
A doodle of Team EBNE, my RWBY OCs based on characters from a fanfic based on characters from the Harry Potter movies based on characters from the Harry Potter books. Through this long game of fandom telephone, I decided to dress them up in the most ironic Halloween costumes possible. (Though these are their actual House alignments!)
Take a look here for more about Team EBNE!
Another year, another OC!
As is tradition, every June, I come up with and release YET ANOTHER team of RWBY OCs. This one is more for fun and keeping the tradition alive than anything else, so this time, the inspiration theme is just plain silly: characters from My Immortal.
(If you do not recognize this old lore of the internet, please, quickly educate yourself.)
My Immortal is one of my favorite pieces of literature of all time in terms of how many times I’ve reread it, so I thought I’d give it a little bit of love. After all, the character names are pretty much RWBY names already. To start, here’s the messily-rendered first member of the forthcoming Team EBNE (Ebony), led by, you guessed it: Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way. (The apostrophe is canonical and necessary.) Although, as a RWBY OC, her name’s just Ebony Darkness, I suppose.
Her weapon’s a scythe named Chemical Romance, because I looked inside myself and realized that, if the author of My Immortal had ever needed a weapon besides a gun, she would have chosen a scythe INSTANTLY. If you want to shame me for my terrible taste or ask about Team EBNE, feel free to ask or message me!
B’loody Mary
Again, the apostrophe is canonical and necessary.
Second member of joke/not-quite-joke-anymore Team EBNE, B’loody Mary. (Blood is a color, c’mon.) For those of you who are not familiar with My Immortal (oh, to be you), B’loody Mary is the goth AU version of Hermione that has red eyes, has black hair, is in Slytherin, is a vampire, and is obviously hilariously goth. Her outfit is inspired by one of My Immortal’s notorious outfit descriptions, but I also added the witch hat for a dash of character.
I can’t believe I’m doing this.
Nightmare Raven
The nightmare continues! This is the third member of Team EBNE, Nightmare Raven. Because, let’s face it, it’s what the author of My Immortal would have wanted. Nightmare (Mary for short, which sure gets confusing around B’loody Mary) is based off of Willow, who is the self-insert of the author’s beta editor/best friend, Raven, hence the last name. Willow gets expelled and subsequently murdered by B’loody Mary in chapter 16 offscreen because the co-authors had a feud about an MCR sweater IRL, but then she shows up in chapter 17, so I guess they figured it out. Nightmare is a gunslinger, as reference to the fact that the characters pull out guns much more frequently than they do wands.
Help me.
Something I've been wondering since you started posting EBNE, are these meant to be actual character transliterations, with your own takes on their personalities in a Remnant based narrative, or are you just fucking around with design work and horrible knowledge? Also, cool to hear that you're doing Maya in your animation studies.
Mostly column A, with a little bit of column B. The real tragedy of My Immortal is that there’s actual substance hiding underneath the terribleness that I seek to unearth. It’s hilarious that MI characters basically already look and are named like RWBY characters, and that inspired it, but this has now evolved into a way of channeling my fascination with MI by making legitimate transformative works from what’s basically a nonexistent source — the ultimate fanon, one could say.
And, thanks for saying that! It’s been really cool working with Maya, knowing that I play with the same clay as that of RWBY’s mighty pillars.
Trying to inject further topics if you're up for that, do you have EBNE's place in the timeline figured out yet, like how CHLC comes in during STRQ's 4th year and HAIL is about 8 years after the main plot wraps up?
Here’s a master timeline!
Note: The Fall of Beacon isn’t actually a year after the start of Team RWBY’s first year, but it shakes out in my head to about two years from the start of their first year to the attack on Haven, which is pretty important to HAIL canon.
Not on here since it’s too crowded, but team DARK (Apate and Rema’s team) is STRQ’s age.
For EBNE, they aren’t at a Huntsman Academy at all; they’re at a private school for ~delinquents~ (a correctional facility, basically) all for different reasons, but once they leave, they’re all in Vale during the Fall of Beacon. But that’s for another time!
Gonna take a swing in the dark and say their Semblance has to do with that weird pupil'd eye and their Faunus trait is, teeth?
Ebony: As for the Faunus trait, it’s kinda rude to ask, so I’ve been avoiding it. I’m assuming it’s a full-body thing, though, like scales or fur, considering how covered-up they choose to dress compared to the rest of us. B’loody hopes they’ll trust us enough in time to tell us, and Nightmare just wants to scare it out of them, but I’m fine with not knowing, honestly.
((You’re gonna have to wait a little bit longer on that one! I’m still figuring out all the details, but I hope this will suffice. What I will say is that the eye thing is related to the Semblance, not the Faunus trait. Thanks for the asks!))
