Previously undisclosed reasons behind the shock fighter exodus from the fabled Team Lakay of Baguio City have started to come out.
Team Lakay, for those not in the know, is a team based out of the Philippines. When ONE Championship (then ONE FC) first popped up and was focused on raising the profile of SE Asian MMA talent, Team Lakay’s fighters were some of the first to make a big splash. Guys like Eduard Folayang, Honario Bonario, Geje Eustaquio, and Kevin Belingon (and later Joshua Pacio) were synonymous with early ONE cards. They won titles and were a huge part of the early success of the company. They went to the Philippines for their 5th ever event and apparently drew in over 12,000 people.
All that said many of the original members have left the gym relatively recently and it seems like MMA in the country has stilted. Now we have a reason as to why that might be.
