Strange Brew is not your typical coffee shop. Yeah, sure, they source and roast their own beans, which is enough to make them different, but it’s really the people who run it that make it so….well, strange. First off, the cute blonde lady who owns the place sometimes just…drops out of a ceiling tile to take your order, you’re pretty you once saw her eat a whole case of pastries in one sitting and literally climb the wall, and she loves chocolate more than any human being alive. Every once in a while you get the impression that maybe she’s spying on her regulars, but mostly for good reasons. Actually, you’d bet money that she somehow masterminded a truly adorable meet cute between a couple of Strange Brew’s lonely hearts, this sophisticated English lady and a kinda curmudgeonly guy from Boston who used to always come in separately but they come in together every day lately.
And then there’s the head barista, who seems like the world’s grumpiest man and the kind of guy your mama told you to avoid, but the thing is, he makes the best coffee you’ve ever tasted and if you happen to mention the slight hint of blueberry that you’re getting from the coffee of the day, he’ll spend a solid hour talking your ear off about the delicate balance of flavors he was going for in this particular roast, which would be worth it for the smile alone, but also he’ll just straight up give you one of his pastries that he swears pairs perfectly with that coffee, and you know what, he’ll be right. Sometimes when nobody else is around he sings along to whatever’s on the store playlist and you will swear he sounds like some kind of cowboy angel.
Oh, yeah, and then there’s me, because you know, every coffee shop needs a handsome nerd who comes in every day to do some quality people watching while they work on their novel. I’ve already written a couple of bestsellers, but my editor’s been on me for the next best thing and I just had not been able to make the words happen until I walked in here. But something about this place just works, and now instead of a serious case of writer’s block I’ve got about half of the next best thing written, plus I get all the delicately flavored coffee I can drink and the occasional free pastry. And, you know. The view’s not bad, either.

omg I love your Eliot has temporary amnesia WIP <3
hey, thank you so much, anon! just for you, here’s another small snippet:
"Do you not know how handsome you are?" Eliot asks. He frowns. "Do I not tell you that enough? I should tell you every day. I'm gonna do that from now on, baby, I promise."
"That is so not necessary," Hardison says.
"No, you should definitely tell him more," Parker says.
"I intend to," Eliot promises, and then he squints at Parker. "What about you? Do you have a boyfriend? Or girlfriend? Somebody who tells you how beautiful you are?"
"No," Parker says, shaking her head sadly, and Hardison really has to hand it to her, all that time with Sophie has paid off and then some. He almost feels sorry for her, and he is her boyfriend.
"I'm sorry about that, honey," Eliot's saying. He's holding Parker's hand now, and she looks a little bit like she looked the day they found out there was gonna be that chocolate festival in Boston.
"Okay, wow," Hardison says. "Uh-- babe? Maybe you should, you know, get some rest, before you say something you regret?"
"I'm just saying," Eliot continues, absolutely determined to say whatever the hell he wants regardless of what anyone else has to say about it. "She's hot. Somebody should tell her."
Parker just beams at him.
"Is he gonna remember...not remembering?" Hardison asks the nurse. "I just-- he's gonna be so embarrassed, you know?"
"He'll get over it," the nurse laughs. "Really, it happens more often than you think. You'll be laughing about this for years, I'm sure."
"Uh huh," Hardison says, trying to picture a universe where Eliot You Ate My Sandwich, Prepare to Die Spencer thinks any of this is funny. "Laughing. That is what we will do. About this."
He has....amnesia?!?!?! (Also hi!!!! You’re amazing I hope you’re having a great day) 💗💗
Hi <33 thank you so much! I hope you are also having a great day! :D
This is a Leverage OT3 story-- Hardison POV, Eliot gets hurt pretty bad in a fight, has to have surgery, wakes up with a side effect of temporary amnesia, is startled and delighted to find that Hardison is his “husband,” Hardison realizes maybe Eliot?? has a thing?? for him?? and Parker is just incredibly amused by all of this.
Like. There are more than a few of these already on AO3 but I hope this is a “two cakes” situation because I just wanted to write some fluff to balance out some of the angstier things I’m working on, and this is definitely fluff. Anyway. Here is a preview!
"Holy shit," Eliot says. "You're my husband?”
"Yeah," Hardison tells him.
"Well hot damn," Eliot says, and hand to God, he looks Hardison all the way up and down like he's one of the many, many women in the many, many bars they've seen him with over the years. "I am one lucky son of a gun, huh?"
"Laying it on a little thick, man," he chuckles, nervously, because Eliot is smiling at him, and it seems like his character in this cover story would probably smile back.
But-- he's seen Eliot grift. Eliot's good at it. Probably second best next to Sophie. But even at his best it's not like this, because Eliot's smiling at him, and his eyes are crinkling up at the edges. Crinkly eyes means that's a real smile, and a real smile means real feelings behind it, and real feelings means-- oh damn. And like. It's not that he's opposed, exactly. It's just that he has a Parker. A Parker he loves, dearly. A Parker who once broke a beer bottle in her own hands because one of their clients was pretty, and sat too close to him. A Parker who is sitting right here, too, because she was just as worried about Eliot.
"Amnesia is not an entirely uncommon side effect of anesthesia," the nurse is saying, and Hardison is nodding, and Eliot is smiling, and what is going on. "He'll probably remember who you are pretty soon."
"Sure, okay," Hardison says, with another nervous laugh.
"You're just so damn handsome," Eliot is saying, and now he is holding Hardison's hand, so to say the situation has gone from bad to worse is to really underestimate the whole thing by several orders of magnitude. "What the hell did I do to deserve you?"
This is the worst possible time to try and absorb this information.
At first, he worries that if Parker catches on she's gonna rip the railing off this bed with her bare hands. But what happens when Parker does catch on makes him wish that's how she reacted, because what happens is, Parker actively encourages this situation.
"He is very handsome, isn't he," Parker says.
"Parker," Hardison says levely. "I don't think he needs your help, here. I definitely do not."
