Cindy Ngamba guarantees the Refugee Olympic team their first ever medal by reaching semifinals of women’s 75 kg tournament in boxing! With her win today, she is guaranteed a bronze medal. She’ll fight for a shot at gold this Thursday (Aug 8)!

Originally from Cameroon, Ngamba was forced to flee in her early teens. She and her family sought asylum in the U.K. They’ve been unable to get citizenship there. At 18, Ngamba came out as lesbian which is illegal in Cameroon. Learn more from this profile on here.

A Small NBC Rant (Yes, about Rio)

Okay, I don’t watch the Olympics to watch JUST team USA, NBC. Give me coverage of ALL the countries, because I care about them too. Just because an American didn’t win the gold OR any of the medals is NOT an excuse to skip the winners’ medal ceremony. 

It’s rude of you, NBC and takes away from other peoples’ victories and I want to cheer on people from other countries. 

Go Team Canada, France, Italy, Refugee, etc!

Team Refugee: Running From Exile

For five South Sudanese runners competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, “refugee” is an identity that has followed them for most of their lives.

In the face of a global refugee crisis, the 2016 Olympic Games are bringing together the first ever team of refugees. Ten athletes are set to compete in the Games and represent the millions of people displaced from their homes around the world, all united under a single banner. They are the nation of refugees.

In this, the latest chapter in our special report on the world’s migrant crisis in partnership with Magnum Photos photographer Newsha Tavakolian takes us to the athlete’s training facility in Nairobi and the Kakuma refugee camp in northwestern Kenya, “home” to the displaced five.

how come literally nobody on my dash is posting about the olympics??? like this shit is lit! they tackled racism, global warming, slavery, diversity, and sexism and they had lit music, visuals, the athletes planted an entire future forest and the little kid dancing to the carnival music is adorable af
