Pokemon Card of the Day #2293: Team Rocket’s Handiwork (Fates Collide)
Team Rocket’s Handwork was a Supporter that relied on coin flips to work, which was already a problem for trying to see use. The good news? Its effect was tailored to work best with stall decks, which could afford this missing much more easily. When played, you had 2 coin flips, and each heads had you discard 2 cards from the top of your opponent’s deck. Using this was an attempt to force the opponent closer to running out of cards, with that being the deck’s main chance of victory if you were actually thinking of running this.
While locking decks did see a bit of success with things like Vileplume, most of those did try to chip the opponent down with various attackers and win that way. These harder stall decks were much less common while this was in any Standard format, though this card did see a bit of use in decks based around Shining Legends Hoopa. Team Rocket’s Handiwork saw its best chance in Expanded later on, being used in hard control decks that used things like Zoroark-GX, Seismitoad-EX, or stalling behind Lillie’s Poke Doll and Robo Substitute depending on the details of the deck. Team Rocket’s Handiwork had a better role there to help get rid of cards more quickly.
