Steve Inskeep (and other assorted radio hosts)
One of my most favorite things about radio (well, by that I mean npr, let's be honest) is that you get to know your most favorite personalities based on their voice alone, and generally unless you go out of your way to look them up you build up this image of how they look and it becomes a very personal thing. So it was with me and Steve Inskeep (tumblr's steveinskeep).
I've been listening to him for years now on my drive to work and to school and just out and about, and I always thought from his voice that he was a bit older -- he's got that good-natured, slightly-rough-around-the-edges mid vocal range that I associate with age. Not hardened or worned, just... I dunno. Kinda like corduroy. Soft and textured, and leaves an imprint.
Anyhow, so this week he's doing some reporting from Iran and on one of the NPR tumblrs (they are all just the best and you should follow them all) reblogged a post from his tumblr of a picture of a bunch of recent nursing graduates. At the end he mentions,
When I asked about their future they had little to say, although a moment later, as one of the students asked for a picture with me, her friends joked that finding a man was “the number one priority.”
I kinda chuckled when I read it first, but then I saw the link to his tumblr, and I clicked it and saw his picture. And then I realized the humor of the situation. And that was how I discovered that Steve Inskeep is actually not old at all. And, nextlifeout I'm sure you can appreciate this, he bears (in my mind) a strong resemblance to a younger Joe Biden.
Oh the things we learn.
