“An Unsung Hero: The misconception of the Karate Kid’s true hero, Johnny Lawrence.” 🐍 - With only 3 days left before the Season 2 premiere of Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg’s #CobraKai (YouTube Premium), here’s my personal take on how fans of the original #KarateKid (1984) have wrongly painted Johnny Lawrence as the “bully” who along with his buddies and peers at John Kreese’s Martial Arts Dojo, Cobra Kai, abused, harassed, and bullied Daniel LaRusso (HATE the b**tard!) without mercy. Was Mr.Lawrence the Antagonist to Mr.LaRusso being the Protagonist, and the Yin to his Yang? Of course he was, without question! But did he REALLY “bully” Daniel-san (R.I.P. Morita Noriyuki a.k.a. Mr.Miyagi ❤️) when he and his then-girlfriend, Ali Mills, were having a PERSONAL argument about their relationship without it ever escalating to violence? He didn’t lay a finger on either her or Daniel-san, until the latter stuck his nose where it didn’t belong, forcing Johnny to use the cowardly little weasel’s own weight and force against him, defending himself in the process. But when the so-called “Karate Kid” threw a SUCKER PUNCH at him, fun and games were over, and Johnny Lawrence, The REAL Karate Kid, went to town, like a Boss! 😎👊🏻😂 Or how about that time during #Halloween when the little s**t pulled a childish prank on Mr.Lawrence (a VERY pathetic payback), only to be on the receiving end of a well deserved beat down! Nice one, Mr.Prankster.... 😆 There are instances where Mr.Lawrence does behave like a total jerk, but was Daniel LaRusso any different? If there’s anything the 1st Season of #CobraKai established/explored, it’s the fact that neither men are either “Good” or “Bad”, but are very complex individuals, as most people are.
