Honestly this has all been blown way out of proportion, and most articles have been influenced by other articles rather than credible sources.
Not only that, it was initially reported that the members of Ghost would be referred to as the anonymities of Papa Emeritus and The Nameless Ghouls to fit in with the band’s tradition, yet Simon Söderberg has not only outed himself, but other members of the band on Facebook. Granted this is not made public, but did he honestly forget that screenshots exist?
What he has done is place Papa in a compromising position where ideally he’d have to publicly address his identity in order to clear things up, which is actually very unfair. Although I for one consider Papa Emeritus as an alter-ego, and not representative of the man behind the mask, and therefore will continue to love the spectacle, I cannot say the same for others and I’m worried the lack of enigma will be debilitating. Granted the ex Nameless Ghouls are free to reveal their identity as they please as they are no longer members of the band, but to out Papa? That’s just very unfair and it all comes across as shady.
There might be bad blood between Simon and Papa after he let him go, but honestly we don’t know the side of the story? Perhaps these “hired musicians” Simon alluded to are more cost effective to keep the future of the band, which is sad but, it might have secured the future of Ghost. As much as we love them, and they are familiar to Metal and Rock fans, they really are not a big band and probably do not have a high income. Even bands like My Chemical Romance weren’t necessarily “rich”, even at their height.
Furthermore, Simon was a member of the band for 6 years, and if he was truly bothered by the wages, surely he would have taken action sooner and not only after he left, and "coincidentally” after it seems that Ghost is becoming more popular. He accuses Papa of greed, but honestly it seems that Simon’s actions are founded in it. Not only this, but I have seen multiple comments from former Ghouls who are openly saying this is bullshit, and that Papa is a genuinely nice guy. Even the former Omega, who famously named himself as Martin Persner is not involved, who left Ghost not over monetary issues, but due to him wanting to concentrate on Magna Carta Cartel.
Honestly? This all just comes across as very shady, and also unfair. I for one will continue to support Papa Emeritus and Ghost even after all this has come to light, as I truly believe that this is a cleverly crafted, sly move on the ex Ghouls’s part in order to create bad press and reputation. This really didn’t have to come to light, keep it private lads.
You can call me a Papa fangirl all you want, because I know what I am and what I’m not at the end of the day - I’m a fan of Ghost who loves both Papa and the Ghouls, and the spectacle and music they provide.
(Or plot twist, this is just an elaborate publicity stunt to usher in the summoning of Papa IV.)
