My role and working style in our team
We all have different kinds of roles when operating in a team. Those roles can vary when working in different teams with different people. In a certain team you might be the most active one, but in the other team someone else might have that role instead of you. I have noticed it throughout the years of studying and co-operating with all kinds of people. Also, if your team is full of good friends, it’s not always a good thing. I personally get the best results when operating in a team full of people I’ve never met before.
When it comes to doing any kind of teamwork, I always do my part, if not more. I admit that in some teams I can be lazier than in other ones, but that only happens if the subject we’re working on is lame and doesn’t interest me even a bit. But even then, I get my part done, no matter what. And in my head, being lazy in a team, might be productive for some people.
In teams I want to be the guy who brings positive energy to the group, one way or another. The common atmosphere should be good between the team members. With that, the results are always better, too. I want to be always on time, and not to finish the project in the final hours before the deadlines. Being productive throughout the whole course is also a thing that I always want to hold on to, because that is how you will properly take advantage of the learned information.
Working styles in a team
We are all a combination of four working styles, but mostly people are closely aligned with one or two of them. The four working styles are:
Pioneers, who are the most energetic ones, who don’t lack on imagination. Pioneers think that all risks are worth taking, and they focus on the big-picture.
Guardians who focus on the facts and given data. They bring order in the team and aren’t as open to taking risks like Pioneers are.
Drivers value challenge but are obsessed with getting good results and winning. Drivers are ready to tackle the problems that might be in your team’s way when trying to achieve the best results.
Integrators draw teams together. Relationships and atmosphere between the team members are super important for them. Integrators can be seen as diplomatic people.
Like written earlier in this blog post, I am mostly an integrator, but I see a lot of things in myself from Pioneers and Guardians, too. But that is completely normal, because in most cases we all are a combination of few of those working styles. Given these working styles, which of them do you see in yourself?
