Tea Newbie Tip #1 - What do you need to start steeping?
Making a cup of loose leaf tea is easy, but intimidating to someone who has never done it. I know because I’ve been there, and because I remember what it was like to be that newbie I can now pass my knowledge down to other tea newbies. With that being said...
The best thing to start out with is a nice inexpensive infuser mug, or if you have a mug you already like then just a simple infuser that sits in your cup. Your new at this, so it’s best to start small and work your way up. Find a tea you wanna have more then just a cup of at a time? Maybe look into something a little bigger like a personal sized teapot. But start small and inexpensive, because for all you know, tea might not be your thing and you don’t wanna be stuck with an expensive steeper you won’t use.
Some retailers will try to sell you on a “tea maker” that drains into your cup. Stray away from these to start. They do work well but tend to be a little harder to clean, and if not cleaned properly, will interfere with the flavor of your teas.
Ideally you will want something stainless as it will be easy to clean and maintain and won’t interfere with the flavor of your teas. Stay away from things like gimmick silicone infusers shaped like animals. They look cute hanging from your cup but do not work well at all. But at the end of the day it’s your tea, therefore your call.
Are you starting out your tea journey and have a question I haven’t answered? Feel free to ask.
