My world at the moment is going through waves of feeling like the #tower card. An inevitable toppling of structure, a dynamic (and chaotic) shift of power, a reordering of control and controlled. It’s messy, it’s necessary, the results are worthwhile. The moment is just SO uncomfortable! - This tower card is from my pet project, the #TeaTimeTarot. Ah, the moon! The harbinger of Pisces season is this card. I wanted to include the dark side of the moon for the #TeaTimeTarot to represent our repressed or hidden selves. 🌙 The moon has always meant a fear of the unknown to me, and of some external theory where our locus of control relies on being able to see everything clearly illuminated; in crafting this card, it finally occurred to me that this unknown darkness could occur internally, too. 🌙 ♓️ As we swim through the waters of Pisces as a collective, astrology says we are in a heightened place of emotions, and apt to look for completion and filling of patterns. The moon suggests that we have access already to the missing pieces that we perceive as being far away, outside of our reach. It is a gentle reminder of the shadows within ourselves. As I create, I find myself going back and remaking the initial creations to bring them up to speed with my skills. The first mock up of #TheChariot for the #TeaTimeTarot was a picnic basket, and I am so stoked about this reimagining as the China cabinet. Study exterior, fragile interior, set into motion when our heart is involved. . The romantic card of choice alongside commitment: two things that seem at first glance to be in opposition, but upon further reflection reveal their dependence on one another. A quality of tarot art I really value and strive for is representation: different abilities, bodies, genders, all reflected in the ambiguity of a small piece with profound meaning. This is a choice that each artist gets to navigate, and a commitment that I have personally made in designing a #TeaTimeTarot deck.
