I will start off with the sad news that this tiny, hole-in-the-wall Japanese take-out restaurant is no longer in existence as of early 2013. But that doesn't mean that they've never served up some kick ass grub, right? Tebaya certainly deserves a quick honorable mention.
Tebaya served up a very niche style of wing; drenched in a salty, Teriyaki glaze and smothered in sesame seeds. To say the least, the wing was unique, which is why Tebaya received so much traffic. Not to mention, the wings themselves were exceptionally small (And cheap! You would get 5 or 6 with your chicken Teriyaki meal over rice for about $8!). I must say, they served the fluffiest white rice I've ever had...
If you dislike heavy sauce and a heavy soy flavoring, I would not recommend Tebaya style wings. However, there is a special place in many New Yorker's hearts for Tebaya wings, and they will be missed. Please let me know if you ever come across their return in another part of town!
Cheers!
