I don’t like papayas. There’s this strange pungency to its flavor that I find offsetting. But there is one “papaya” I can’t resist, and it comes by way of Glassio, the NYC alt and dance pop duo formerly known as Astronaughty. Their new single Papaya is a lifting summer banger that falls somewhere in between groovy synthpop and techno tinged, disco glam house. Try as you might, there’s no resisting dancing to the ebullient summer anthem. Papaya is an ode to the beauty of transformation and the emotionally-charged impulse to escape where you’ve come from and find a new home. The pair wrote the song when Sam was visiting Iran for Norooz and Charles was in NY. They “wanted to make something that felt very spiritual, but also very liberating at the same time. A song about deserting your surroundings with somebody you trust and building a new life out of the ashes of an older one.”
