West campus sparkled on the night of December 1 as the third annual Tech Twinkles celebration brought holiday lighting to trees and walking paths outside the Zesiger Center and leading to Baker House.

Who are Tech Twinkles and what do they do? 

 Hi! We are Teresa (left) and Veronika (right), the founders of Tech Twinkles. We started Tech Twinkles freshmen year with the support of the Division of Student Life and had our first tree lighting celebration last year (2014). 

Tech Twinkles aims to brighten west campus by adding twinkle lights to trees on West Campus as well as bring the MIT community together through our annual Tech Twinkles gathering with festive songs and refreshments. We hope Tech Twinkles will expand every year, both with more lighting on West Campus as well as increased attendance at our annual gathering. 

 This year we are partnering with the MIT Logs and having our Tech Twinkles gathering at 6:30pm on Friday, December 11th in Kresge Lobby right before the Logs concert. 

What gave you the idea for Tech Twinkles?

Our freshmen year we noticed that during the cold, winter months West Campus was not very alive due to the stress of finals and the early winter sunset. We wanted to change this. We had the idea of putting up twinkle lights on west campus and believed this would go a long way to brighten the area and lift people’s spirits. 

Not only did we want to put twinkle lights on campus, but we also wanted to pair the festive lights with a gathering to celebrate the Tech Twinkles spirit of community. We are so lucky to have the support of the Division of Student Life who embraced our idea and have helped it become a reality.
