Bittersweet Goodbyes and Looking Ahead
I attended my first Railsgirls and Ruby Conf nearly 2 years ago. I still remember the time I first shipped that half baked Rails application and shared the URL with my friends, that excitement I felt way back then was the beginning of something that would never go away; the drive to learn and to build things.
Meeting great people, making lasting friendships and helping people make big life changes have been the most fulfilling things for me. When I left Icelab nearly two years ago to join Lookahead Search I did so because I wanted to keep working to support our Javascript and Ruby communities, and I have certainly done that. I've met countless people, and helped all of them; whether that be with advice, connections or their new hire or role. I've volunteered at all the community events and hopefully helped them achieve great things.
Now it's time for my next move – I'm embarking on the most terrifying move of my career, I'm going to be a junior developer in a high achieving software team. How many people can say they got more technical during their time as a recruiter?
Besides finally learning to adult, and learning some essential life skills – having tough conversations, and managing relationships in all types of situations – I have had the chance to have deep technical discussions with some of the best in our business. The people and teams we work with are amazing, and what they all achieve daily is both daunting and inspirational.
Leaving all this behind is bittersweet. I'm sad. My time at Lookahead Search has been the greatest, I love the team I'm saying goodbye to and I hope I can find another that works as closely and without ego as we do. Leaving a job is hard, leaving one you love is even harder.
I’m here for a while longer, if you think this job might be for you, please get in contact.
