for the AMA, if you don't mind me asking- do you go to an art school? or is there one you'd recommend? (i'm searching for a college or university to enter and i'd appreciate some advice :> completely ok if you don't want to answer!)

I study animation in ChungKang college of cultural industries, and before that I prepared for KArts/Korea National University of Arts.

I’d recommend both schools to anyone who’s interested in animation, but it depends on who I’m recommending to. If you’re really interested in being a director then I recommend preparing for KArts. If you’re interested in animation itself/want to experience different aspects of animation then I recommend preparing for CK.

Things to know about both colleges:

KArts is a very renowned university and is a lot cheaper than CK, but only accepts 15 students a year. You will have to prepare for years if you want to get accepted. Your KSAT grades don’t matter. I dropped out of highschool and took the GED test because they accept GED scores.

Though CK is a great college to study animation, it’s a community college(3 years + 1 year of Bachelor’s Degree, optional). Your parents might not like it at first, especially if they don’t know a lot about the animation industry. It’s also located in the middle of nowhere(next to a chicken farm). You will have to live in the school dorm where it reeks of fermented chicken shit.

I hope this helps. I don’t know a lot of animation schools/art schools besides CK & KArts because I only wanted to go to one of these two schools. Other people around me went to Hongik, Sangmyung, Kyonggi, Kyewon, etc… there’s a lot of universities that provide animation classes in Korea.

If you’re interested in webtoons, illustration, comics… instead of animation, I’d still recommend CK.

I could write some more but it’s gonna get too long. So… feel free to ask more questions about art schools and I’ll try my best to answer them.
