Let’s be honest, we all know I’m a bit of a Diaspro Stan. If you didn’t know that: surprise? She’s one of my favourite characters mostly for what she could have been.

Anyway!

I have never seen Steven Universe, but I’ve seen a few bits and pieces from various episodes, and I had some general knowledge surrounding the characters of the show.

I just finished watching a video covering its rise and ‘fall from grace’ because I was side tracked looking for a quick video on The Diamonds. (The Diamonds being the ‘final villains’ of Steven Universe.)

Why?

Because an idea occurred to me:

Princess Diaspro, Fairy of Gemstones/Gemlight Vs. The Diamonds (who would win?)

I mean my knee jerk reaction is Diaspro because I Stan a b*tch, and I heard the Diamonds didn’t do so good in their boss battles, but like, not enough context for me to know for sure which is why I was trying to ‘research’.

Anyway!

This got me thinking about ways the Magical Dimension and the Steven Universe ... uh, Universe reality could be connected, and I was thinking about how I used Diaspro’s powers to assume the power type of her realm as ‘earth’/mineral and ore based.

And, uh...

Diamonds naturally come in five Many colours. (Only four are used in the show, as far as I know.)

I’m having a cross over idea and it’s super convoluted. 😈

I’m not actually going to write it, but: something, something, Brown Red Diamond’s Gem has been in the safe keeping of Diaspro’s family for ages because reasons, something, something, the Fairies of Isis were maybe actually immigrants to Eraklyon from Homeworld < or the other way around > the Gems/Diamonds were originally ‘born’ from the Gem Fairies of Isis?

EDIT: After @scofflawsins​​ reminded me Red Diamonds are actually a thing, (thank you!) I did a quick google search, it has revealed Five was definitely not correct:

Diamonds occur in a variety of colors; steel gray, white, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, pink to purple, brown, and black. Colored diamonds contain interstitial impurities or structural defects that cause the coloration, whilst pure diamonds are perfectly transparent and colorless.

Funnily - Brown Diamonds are apparently one of the most common variations of colour, while Red is one of the rarest.

Thinking about Daphne’s headdress this week.

If it was a solid piece it faces two issues:

Weight - it’s going to get heavy and cause neck strain

Drag - it’s going to catch any wind and possibly bump into objects if it’s particularly wide and tall.

In considering how I would design it as a realistic piece I chose to go with the “mission to Domino” colour scheme, firstly because it shows the individual pieces a little better, but I also like it more.

The large wing piece I’ve attempted to draw as a more wire work piece, internally lined with the sheerest, gauziest fabric in a pale blue.

The wire work itself I’m imagining in two shade of blue to try and emphasise a dragon-wing style aesthetic.

I did want to go for a more ‘ambiguous shapes’ and ‘free flowing’ with the wires, but pseudo-scale was easiest to draw.

The sticky-upper-bit crown I’m shortening to create a more reasonable silhouette.

I’ve also changed the tip to a more flame-peacock eye to match with the patterns on Daphne’s belt ornamental flap thingies.

I did stick with the gold mask instead of the blue, just because the mask has a ‘starring role’ in one of the movies, so it’s deeply entrenched as gold in my mind, and it avoided overwhelming her head with blue.
