Technics Reborn — new site and new products
When Technics announced that they would be discontinuing their line of Technics 1200 turntables, the first thing most of us did was freak out for a good second. The second thing we did was check on Craigslist to see how much the price of a used set would rise, and believe me, they did. The same turntable I bought for about $300 used jumped to almost double in value. So it goes without saying that I’m holding on to these decks as long as I can. I think more people were saddened by the fact that the company who basically turned Turntablism into what it is now had abandoned the idea altogether. However, in recent news it was announced that Technics was coming back on the scene – but not in the way we all thought. No, there are not out there producing products specifically for DJs. Instead, they have taken to designing hi-fi stereo equipment, which is sort of what they were doing when the first 1200 turntable was produced. Will this mean that they will re-enter the DJ and scratching scene with some new products?
