Just found a political party I would so love to vote for
Idealogy:
Utilitarianism Techno-progressivism "Bright green" environmentalism Technocentrism Cornucopianism
Policies Include:
Opposition to unnecessary regulations of new technology.
Opposition to government monitoring of data and criminalisation of journalism.
Greater transparency and openness in government.
Increased science research funding.
New charter city including a university.
Increased rate of immigration.
Higher density residential development.
High quality internet, and internet freedom.
Thorium reactor research.
Emissions trading and renewable energy.
Greater space research and industry.
A higher quality education system.
Democratic reform to both houses.
Simplified tax system.
High-speed rail.
Rapid approval for driverless cars.
These are dream policies for me! But I am now having a slight political crisis in my brain (as I often do), as this party describes itself as a radical centre party... and supports the value of free markets. Though clearly very left wing on social issues (the party is anti-authoritarian and extremely socially liberal), they have a centrist economic policy. This is a party of science, and they support free markets. Does this mean that I am not on the side of science by supporting a left-wing party currently? I don’t know, but my internal battle between libertarian socialism and this brand of radical centrism (they really sound like the Lliberal Democrats actually) has just ratcheted up a notch. I will continue to vote Labour and support Jeremey Corbyn while I try and sort this out in my head, but I am seriously wondering if I am turning into a Liberal Democrat, (not a Blairite, I still detest those authoritarian idiots.) Also I don’t know actually how similar the Lib Dems are to this, we need a Science Party UK people! And I still hate the Tories just as much as ever, with their anti-sicence, anti-rational, anti-evidence based policy, anti-disabled, anti-NHS, radical neoliberalism, authoritarian, regressive policies. Why am I not voting for this Science Party though? Because they are The Science Party of Australia. I don’t live in Australia so cannot vote for them. Oh well.
