In the past human nature put certain limits on the development of societies. People could be pushed only so far and no further but today this may be changing because modern technology is developing ways of  modifying human beings with the use of antidepressant drugs, techniques of surveillance, physical coercion, methods of propaganda, psychological techniques along with biological and neurological methods and genetic engineering. Our society tends to regard as a sickness any mode of thought or behavior that is inconvenient for the system and this is plausible because when an individual doesn’t fit in to the system it causes pain to the individual as well as problems for the system thus the manipulation of an individual to adjust him is seen as a cure for a sickness and therefore is good.

At first, we were amused to learn that the Unabomber had a new-ish (2010) book out... We remembered him as a murderous eccentric. He's murderous alright, but how eccentric now?

"While technological progress AS A WHOLE continually narrows our sphere of freedom, each new technical advance CONSIDERED BY ITSELF appears to be desirable. Electricity, indoor plumbing, rapid long-distance communications... how could one argue against any of these things, or against any other of the innumerable technical advances that have made modern society?
