Terrifying moment this weekend when I left my computer at a friend's place and didn't realize until I'd gotten home. I didn't have it for like... a day, and when I realized it was missing it took my friend hardly any time to find it. It was about an hour drive to go pick it up again and an hour drive back home. So not that serious. But I swear, my life passed before my eyes when I realized I'd lost my computer—and by that I mean I had a moment to worry because I need my computer for work and then a long, terrifying sink into utter dread as I thought about all of my writing, just gone. (Look, there is A LOT OF IT. All the stuff already posted on AO3, yes, but a ton of fanfic stuff that is still in progress, various original projects—some of which were from over a decade ago (and while they might suck, they're still mine, still important to me)—weird journaling projects that were the right fit for me at the time, just... a lot of stuff. But even if it weren't that extensive, it still would have sucked.)

So yes, seriously. Terrifying, panic and dread inducing moment. (I should have maybe cared a little more about the work projects, I admit, but... I'm sure it'd have hit soon enough if I hadn't been able to find my computer again.)

BUT, I have decided to take this as a reminder—and sign—that I really need to have my computer backed up and back it up regularly. This is something I've known I should do, but have foolishly not invested the time to do. So, on to do some research!!!
