Our Electronic World
Lanham states that "If you are not going to read books any more or are going to read them in different ways you must decide what it is that happens when you do read them." Lanham argues that with technology make us rethink the reality of the limitations that books have. I wanted to write a post on this idea for this week because I feel that while we have upgraded and modernized our world and based it off of the internet and technology we have forgotten what the book means. Reading a bit more into it Lanham stated that, "No one knows how the electronic textbook would look like." Can you imagine? Imagine a life without it, because lets face it, we have no idea how to start imagining what a life would be with it.
I am glad we are way passed what a book would look like on the internet and how we could upload one and only print the chapters we need. It is intriguing to read about this Electronic text stuff and try to understand how it was supposed to work in a life where things weren't how they are today. Trying to keep a mindset in the old days is hard. Some readings I find myself laughing at the idea that I have no idea how to live a life without electronic things! How amazing is it that we are now reading about these ideas and thoughts about a world of technology while on our laptops, phones, etc....
Ive realized that most of these readings are based on things we have been struggling to realize, that life hasn't always been this easy, that life without technology was different. Different.... and that's the main point. What does it mean to you?
While Landow Challenges us as readers ...I felt that he wants us as readers to place ourselves in more than one position to understand his concept of hypertext. While Landow explores the relationship between contemporary literary and social theory and the latest advances in computer software.... I felt like there is still much unknown factors even if we are living the reality of computer software now, at this moment.
