Global Electro Mix

This one is a DJ style MiniMegaMix that I did for my technomusicology class. I have to say, Ableton is pretty wonderful once you get used to it. For this one, I chose 4 songs from different parts of the world that infused a bit of an EDM feel to genres that were native to the artist’s own culture or place of origin. This mix will take you to South America, India, Africa, and Haiti in under 6 minutes. Enjoy!

Aft Town Funk

I’m taking this technomusicology class and this semester and was asked to make a mash up for my last assignment. I’ve been struggling with learning the program that we have to use (Ableton) and this is the first thing that I made that I’m really proud of. I decided to mash up “Good Name” by William Onyeabor and “Crescendolls” by Daft Punk.  

I love music from the 70’s, so this piece is a nod to the past, but looks forward to the future. Kind of like a "you don't know where you going until you know where you've been" kind of thing. Plus, it’s pretty funky, which is what inspired the name. Both songs have sparse and repetitive lyrics, but I think they work together well. When I hear Good Name, it’s as if William Onyeabor is trying to bring home his message of the importance of a good name. I feel like the “Hey! Everybody y’all!” from the Daft Punk song is cheering him on.

Maybe there will be more to come, but I’m just really happy to have finished it. Time for Spring Break!

These are the entries from students in Wayne's class for the montage project. The "Call Me Maybe" video is very interesting. It just...keeps...building...which is actually more interesting than if it was just cut together from one video to the other. The layering makes it a little more interesting, actually.
