A public response to Mike Phillips blog reply
For the paintball folks who didn't know this existed, welcome to my tumblr. Please use the coasters to not leave rings on the desk. Thank you. But, let's get down to business, shall we?
Two months ago at I posed on the "blogspot" area a response to criticism, and the usual suspects made their troll remarks and that was that. Well, after a spat over religion with Dale Ford last night, Mike Phillips decided to, out of nowhere, ride that dead horse and posted a wall of text saying all sorts of nasty things. Read it for yourself if you'd like.
And I thought of how to reply? Do I answer all of Mike Phillips accusations in full in novella form? Do I ignore Mike Phillips and make him stew in his unimportance? Do I make sure Mike Phillips binky is clean and make sure his diaper isn't falling off? Well, I think I found a solution that works for me, and that is to answer one part of his multi-paragraph hatefest and use that to dismantle it fully. He wrote :
"How come you didn't stage with anyone else at LL2? or LL3? How come you didn't go to anyone else for help other than me to pay your way to LL5? And now look about you're talking about me. Completely unprovoked, no warning, nothing. Just attack after attack on someone who's stood up for you, defended you, and assisted you multiple times over the past 5 years."
There's something called the "Achilles heel fallacy" in which you say that because one part of an argument is flawed, all of it is. But in this case, I feel justified because it's one example of dozens in Mike Phillips diatribe where his memory is simply WRONG. I can sum it up in one sentence.
I wasn't at "Living Legends 3".
Mike Phillips needs to remember me at LL3 for his argument to have weight, and I simply wasn't there. The rest of his diatribe is the same way. Mike Phillips has memory of events that never happened, and he needs these fictitious events to have happened for his argument to work.
Mike Phillips didn't pay my way to LL5, the kickstarter did and I worked that event to earn that privlidge. Mike Phillips was never my "friend", and if he thinks otherwise then with friends like him who needs enemas? I have not repeatedly attacked Mike Phillips since I haven't even talked about the man in 6 months, he hasn't even been on my radar unless Mike Phillips attacked me first. Mike Phillips never defended or stood up for my name if it didn't serve his own selfish purposes.
Just going point for point in this one paragraph Mike Phillips wrote would fill a few pages with links, photographs and evidence. But it won't matter, because if it's not congruent with his memory, it didn't happen in Mike Phillips world. He's proven that to me before. And I can dismantle EVERYTHING he said.
I'll just close with this. Mike Phillips needs to discredit me. He feels that, somehow, I affect his "6 figure" livelyhood he gets from Markerbids and TechPB. Or he's a fanboy of my old work who feels snubbed by his hero and can't cope with criticism from his idol. Or he's trying to "Stockholm Syndrome" me back into paintball to justify his own unhappiness at being trapped in the dead end game of paintball.
Either way, I'm pretty much done with Mike Phillips at this point. Much like a child throwing a temper tantrum, if you leave him be long enough he'll stop, or he'll move to somewhere else he can scream and cry until he gets the attention he so desperately needs.
The alternative is that all Mike Phillips has in his soul is hate and anger. Sooner than later his fans will see this side of him and abandon him for someone else. The fact that he responds to critics with this level of hate shows that.
But for the paintball folks, I'll tell you again. 1 project, 1 promise, then let Rome burn.
