As requested by some who wanted to see my sewing up close... Some detail shots of the techpriest capelet!

As mentioned: not perfect, not by a long shot... But a pretty big step up from the glued seams and safety pins of my last home-made cosplay, now many years ago!

I learned a lot, and I'm kinda hoping I'll do a better job on the trim next time (attach it to the lining first, for one) but the fact that this was successful enough for me to even think of a next time is kind of miraculous.

Anyway.

Fingers crossed that the weather clears up this weekend so I can start testing spray paint for my Omnissian Axe!

Yours truly has actually made a thing! AKA, a cosplay progress post!

All the terrible cogtooth trim has found its home! (... I sadly have to make more trim now, more on that later), and somehow I managed to actually finish this garment rather than give up on it halfway. Very much not perfect, and it needs to be ironed, but other than that it's pretty much done!

With much gratitude to the Elder Adepts of the Sewing Machine (the ladies at my local walk-in sewing café) who helped me not hand-sew this entire thing, and the guys in my group chat who were cheering me on every step of the way.

Bonus mini servo skull because it was a slow day at work and I had some supplies :)

With the capelet done, I'm moving on to making a loincloth thing for this cosplay, which as we all know means... More Cogtooth Trim. I had the foresight to buy a ton of that silver fabric, but... I'm gonna need a bit of courage for this next round of trim-making xD

I have made so much cogtooth trim. So, so much. It's gonna be a pain to attach it all to my outfit, but I'm not even thinking about that yet. Just... Cogtooth trim for days.

WIP Wednesday!

Got tagged by @sol-el, so here's the latest on my projects in progress!

(tagging @coupleofdays @clevermird @aquamarignis to share a bit (pictures, sketches, a fic snippet, etc) of something they're working on!)

1. Some trialling of metallic finishes on a little test piece.

Results... are pretty disappointing.

I partially ruined my test piece because the black gloss lacquer I used apparently didn't like painter's tape (despite 24h of curing time beforehand) so my graphite didn't take as well as I know it could have on the black half, as that wasn't properly glossy anymore once I pulled the tape off. The chrome spray I got also did NOT give anywhere near the chrome finish advertised. Like, the colour wasn't just named "chrome", they literally advertised it as a "mirror chrome finish" spray, while it's at most a reasonably okay silver.

Naming and shaming: Greenstuff World, I'm SO disappointed.

Given these lacklustre outcomes I'm probably gonna have to do a second test piece before I can paint my props... (And, let me just say this, I resent that. If only there was a good tutorial for these paints I wouldn't have to do all this shit. Urgh. I'm literally considering using acrylic high gloss brush-on paint as a base layer instead of this finicky AF spray lacquer stuff. At least Vallejo has never let me down THIS badly.)

2. Working on the belt and loincloth-thing for my cosplay!

Kinda self-explanatory. The belt is done but might need some type of reinforcement added. The loincloth is merely pinned at the moment and needs a ton of trim and finishing, which... I'm still working to produce. The road to Hell is paved with cogtooth trim, my friends :)

I'll thank the Omnissiah on my bare knees if I get this costume looking even halfway decent before my deadline end of July...

Posting this because I badly need some encouragement to finish my techpriest cosplay... I haven't done any building/crafting since I moved house last year T_T
