Team Vlog - Intro
Why you should come to our TEDx event.
This marks the 17th and final announcement for this year's line-up; 17 unique reasons to be excited for TEDxWarwick 2014. [Speaker Announcement] - 17 Nicola Benedetti Nicola Benedetti is one of the most sought after violinists of her generation. Her ability to captivate audiences with her innate musicianship and dynamic presence, coupled with her wide appeal as a high profile advocate for classical music, has made her one of the most influential classical artists of today. Winner of Best Female Artist at the 2012 Classical BRIT Awards, Nicola records exclusively for Decca (Universal Music). Her most recent recording, The Silver Violin, is particularly renowned for its success in reaching No. 30 in the UK pop charts simultaneously to topping the classical charts for months. Nicola enthralls and communicates to audiences with dynamic and energy-filled performances. And whilst she is a highly sought performer on the world platform, Nicola is also fiercely dedicated to music education. Through her work with such organisations as Sistema Scotland, she has helped to demonstrate the power that music can have in transforming the lives of young people. www.tedxwarwick.com/2014
Therapy Through Photography
Matej Peljhan was born in Slovenia in the 60s. At the age of 10, while playing outdoors with some friends, he was injured by some explosive devices scattered during the Second World War. This accident cost him the loss of an arm and an eye.
After he began studying psychology, Matej soon discovered his passion for photography. He found that beyond its artistic dimension, photography could also be a great medium of expression. Due to his personal and professional ambitions he strives to bring photography as close as possible to the people with special needs. Through his work, Matej tries to capture easily readable symbols that are telling stories and encourage people to start thinking in another way, particularly with regards to people with disabilities. With the creation of ‘The Institute of Photography therapy’ Matej found a smart way of combining photography and psychology.
Here is a sampling of his work…
Metamorphosis
In this quirky beautiful series of pictures, Matej reproduces famous artworks displaying disabled people.
Le Petit Prince
This photo-series is particularly poetic and powerful. The pictures at first glance can make someone think that the boy is in the process of moving, while in reality he is simply laying on the ground because he has muscular dystrophy. Through photographs, Matej display some of the little boy’s dreams.
