last line tag game

no tagging rn... mostly because most of the people i know who write are active on twitter, and those i do know who are still active on tumblr have already been tagged! though, if you are working on something mdzs related and you see this... genuinely pls post this and tag me in it so i can read it!
this is a small excerpt from a post-canon casefic! wwx and lwj go to investigate a haunting in an isolated manor somewhere in the north. there they run into something... very familiar...
“Lan Wangji,” he says, turning the man’s name over in his mouth. “We were friends once, weren’t we?”
Lan Wangji stares at him implacably. The man beside him, the other Wei Wuxian, snorts an incredulous laugh.
“Did I really sound like that, Lan Zhan?” he asks, covering his mouth with a hand but not bothering to whisper his aside. Lan Wangji doesn’t respond, keeping his gaze fixed on some indeterminate point in front of him.
“Wei Ying,” he replies evenly. “We are still friends.”
