in the broadest definition i would say it's whether a thing/person has a quality regardless of external circumstances? tho imo when that def is applied to people's behaviours/identities it's almost always by the wrong people and contexts (naturalistic fallacy, usually)

but doesn’t everything rely on external circumstances to be real? except like maybe the laws of physics
