Title: "Lost in Love", acrylic on canvas, (16 x 20″)
Artist Statement: “Lost in Love” was inspired by the sculpture, “The Kiss” created by Auguste Rodin. Seeing the two people in the sculpture reminded me of love, it was enthralling. But, the two people in the sculpture aren't perfect. Leading me to realize that nobody is really perfect and that love can be a very perplexing and complicated thing. So, I decided to paint two silhouettes because they are the only ones that truly understand the meaning and depth of their love. I added circles around the painting because they symbolize eternity and true love is eternal and has neither a beginning nor an end. Also, since Rodin’s sculpture was cast in bronze metal, it gave me the idea to add scattered strokes of copper acrylic paint around my piece because copper is one of the oldest metals and love is as old as time. The silhouettes directed in the center do not touch because they still think separately as two different beings with emotions blazing fiercely, scattered around the painting as different colors. Although, the silhouettes are surrounded by a messy blackness because love is also blind, and in the darkness there is no sight.
