Amber States - Son of a Gun
These guys are promoted by the same "Label" as Mafia Lights, which is the quirky Teeth Records (Even though they're not a record label, and simply help discover underground bands...confusing I know) and I first heard Son of a Gun on the label sampler about a year ago. This sampler had some crazy, wonderful stuff on it, including this guy just speaking over a drum beat, and really experimental, edgy electronic tracks. But amongst the crazy, this track stood out as being timelessly simple. Indie Folk at its very best. Son of a Gun is part of their debut EP released last year, and really, you need to download the whole EP, because each track really does flow into the next…so whip out the Pimms again and go have fun in the sun, basking in the ambiance of simple chords and a wholesome sound.
They have a new EP out Yearning Better, which I’ll be posting more of (It’s even better than this one, they’ve really grown into their sound) and they’re on a tour of sorts around the UK from may 2nd, so check out the dates and locations and try and grab tickets to the few shows they're doing, as these guys are going places.

I was in Liverpool scoping out the rumours of a new genre, Winkle-picker Punk, and stumbled past The Cavern.
As a massive Beatles fan I had to pop inside. I rubbed the bricks like they were my dead mistress's thighs. Despite the Hard Rock Café vibe the place had adopted, my skin was covered in duck bumps.
The most shocking thing about the visit?
The Fab Four weren't the venue's most famous patrons. No no no ...a picture on the wall told a different story... That story was about Spike from Buffy. Yup. James Masters played The Cavern.
