I didn't sleep well last night so today was not super productive.

I also watched Cinderella and Cinderella III with my family, but I didn't feel like it counted as productive, so it's not on the list.

Some things this TEFL course had made me realise:

1. I really am a grammar nerd fucking hell I have problems

2. The pronunciation of the ‘d’ in ‘talked’ is different to that of the ‘d’ in ‘listened’ (/t/ vs /d/) and my mind is blown, I literally never realised this and I’m p sure I never learned it in school (I'm not sure this is the case for American English or Australian English, but it definitely is in British English!)

3. English really is a clusterfuck nightmare, like I was already aware of that but jfc how do any of you learn this shit. Like sometimes it pretends to have rules and then it just. fucks you up. wow. You’ve got sink sank sunk and drink drank drunk and then think comes up to you and is like HAHA thought and then there’s verbs like to read which is like HAHA read but it’s pronounced differently. Fuck English omg.

4. The amount I am invested in the students in the classroom demonstrations is making me think this is genuinely a good career choice for me, like I’m literally sat here like “YES Phillipe I’m so proud of you you form that present perfect you precious lil cookie”

07.06.2020 // Week 11 of the 2020 Quarantine Challenge

Hi, I’m back! It’s been a wild couple weeks, but I’m finally getting back into the groove again. Yesterday I finally started my online TEFL Certification course! As annoying as all the multiple choice quizzes are, I’m really glad to be doing some low-stakes learning and actually gaining practical skills. It feels very different from learning academic skills, and it’s addicting! You can see how much I’ve worked through in just a couple days haha. If we’re being real, I might just finish the whole course in one week instead of three weeks... 👀

Mon - What is your biggest pet peeve?

OMG people who chew with their mouth open! Lunch meetings are soooo difficult for me lmao

Tue - What motivates you to work hard?

Grad school and postgrad plans, and thinking about all the awesome things I’m working on building into my life. Working hard means doing your best, which is sure to eventually land you some wonderful opportunities! Also, proving people wrong about what I was capable of doing is a pretty sweet form of wholesome revenge.

Wed - What would you sing at Karaoke night?

I’m always down to karaoke anything I know the melody to, but right now I really feel like belting out “SOS” by ABBA with a couple close friends.

Thu - If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I’m already 90% burrito from my childhood, so I’m good to stick with that, some chips, and some solid horchata.

Fri - Have you ever had a nickname? What is it?

Smiley or smiles! Hence the name of my blog ;)

Sat - Who would you want to be stranded with on a deserted island?

Anyone as long as they’re an acquaintance so if we end up fighting from the stress, I don’t go through the trauma of losing a valued relationship. Someone I vibe with but don’t know too well yet!

Sun - What is the worst gift you have received?

A one-year anniversary gift, which was a copy of a love poem I wrote them myself--except it was hand copied onto nice stationary and with their name swapped for mine. Come on, at least go through the effort of being creative! If writing is too intimidating, I’d be just as touched if someone looked up a famous poem that makes them think of me and copied that out instead. This felt like receiving my own gift re-gifted 😬
