meet bubble! one of halite's components, she was designed initially around the same time as halite, with both a homeworld and unaffiliated design.
like her nickname suggests, bubble has a very bubbly personality. she's very curious, enthusiastic, and cheery, and spends most of her time floating, which coupled with her skirt make calling her anything but bubble very difficult.
a further look into her redesign and scrapped designs can be found under the cut!
when redesigning bubble, i'm gonna be real, i didn't have much to go off. her original designs aren't bad, they're just a little boring. i knew i wanted to keep the slightly 'tighter curled' hair (compared to canon sapphire) and the same sort of distribution of colours/shades, but her outfit needed an overhaul. of the three gems in this series i've done so far, bubble has by far had the most iterations of her design.
like halite, bubble was initially redesigned on paper scraps while i was working. her 'original' redesigns looked a lot different to what you see above!
starting with her homeworld design, i kept the affiliation with yellow diamond, and the overskirt shape. the asymmetrical wrap—which is/was an important part of halite's design—was shelved, and will be used elsewhere.
the above designs were initial sketch explorations of her unaffiliated design. the two most important parts of this design that i knew i wanted from the beginning were her pigtails, and being able to see her legs. her pigtails are the foundation of halite's moon buns, so they were non-negotiable. i also needed to keep halite's whole design in mind, as bubble was redesigned after i redesigned her, so i needed to make sure bubble could feasibly be 'half' of halite.
i also wanted her unaffiliated design to look like she was still the same person as before, but able to be herself. as such, i kept the overskirt idea, and accidentally gave her an affinity for waistcoat-like things. the bubble skirt appeared on my second design, and thus so did the nickname bubble.
i didn't like the shapes of the second redesign above, so once again, i took to more sketches.
the bubble skirt stayed, the pigtails became more interestingly shaped, and her wasitcoat/overskirt became more like that of her homeworld design. the one thing that's stayed the same throughout all this exploration is her smile, and cute, excitable energy.
heheee more fun things coming soon!! plus i got maybe slightly a little bit carried away with the next gem in my redraw series and accidentally designed six more labradorites than i needed. oops?
starting this series off strong with my (new) main gemsona, halite! one of the few designs i can put a (vague) original date on, she was originally designed in mid august of 2018 as a fusion between a sapphire and an original gem type, gypsum. she's actually what inspired me to do this series, because redesigning her was very fun.
as for personality, halite is very cheerful, curious, and confident. as well as flexible. she's incredibly flexible. she's based off a mix of ballet and rhythmic gymnastics, as well as just about everything i like in a gem design/fusion mashed into one. height wise, she's a comfortable head above garnet.
her components will be coming soon!!
more info about her redesign process under the cut <3
technically, there's nothing to say her original design isn't one of her designs, since it's a candyflosss design! well, apart from the different arms that is lol. there's no reasoning as to why she's a halite, that's just what i decided in 2018 and i cannot remember my thought process.
i wanted to keep the key parts of her the same; general body shape, features, colours, and gems. aside from that, i quite legitimately wrote a list of my favourite design features of various canon and fan gems and fusions. the key ones in her design are her 'legwarmers', her buns/puffs, and her arms.
i really wanted a simple, streamlined, coherent design, and as such i actually designed her before i did her components. i wanted her to feel like her own person instead of just a mashup of her components. i went back and forth on colours a lot (her hair has changed like 5 times) especially because i cannot track down the original image of halite (the rock) i used to design her back in 2018.
all of her original redesign sketches were done on scrap pieces of paper while i was working, using only my memory of her original design and components. her weapon has also changed, but that'll be showcased in a different piece ive already sketched out. unfortunately its not a maypole anymore, but i think it's still pretty cool
this is my steven universe sideblog! my main is @the-blaze-empress, that's where i follow/interact from.
asks: always open
art requests: open!
feel free to request things for me to draw! there is no guarantee i will, but if you're requesting my own gems/fusions of, the likelihood is certainly higher
you can also request specific gems from my gemsona redraw series! the full list can be found on the info post linked below

i've been drawing steven universe fanart for almost 10 years (since about 2017) and i don't plan on stopping ANY time soon. my main gemsona is halite, the lovely leggy girl from my pfp. you'll probably see a fair amount of her here
the main reason i finally separated this from my main blog is i am undertaking a series where i redraw every single original gemsona/fusion i've ever designed!
more information about this series, as well as a complete list of every gemsona in it, can be found at this link, as well as under the 'redraw series info' button and the question mark in the header on my desktop theme
this series also serves a secondary purpose as a warmup for a bigger project i want to undertake that will be coming soon!
this blog runs a unique tagging system! this system will continue to update, and the most up-to-date version can be found below the cut
i don't typically tag for trigger warnings aside from flashing lights. if there is something you really absolutely need me to tag, just ask

these tags are just the character's name. not every character i draw will have a specific tag. character tags include fusions and/or unfused components
