“THE SOUL OF VOCAL SOUL”
An exclusive interview with Tehillah Henry.
For those who will get to know you for the first time, please tell us about your background?
TH: I am a singer - songwriter from Wolverhampton, currently based in Birmingham, England.
I write in all sorts of genres like most, but my main sound is soul, folk with elements of electronic. I love to spread messages of hope through my music!
How you entered the world of music?
TH: Up to my teenage years I was constantly surrounded by music, then I decided to study Songwriting & Music Production as a degree, which furthered my love for music even more. For the past year since graduating I have been gigging as a solo artist and also playing guitar for other singers in the midlands!
WAALM recently discovered you and established a collaboration between you in the UK and Mosi Dorbayani, an international songwriter in Canada. How do you feel about that? Isn’t it true that music can make people get closer to one another?
TH: I’m excited about this and it’s a great opportunity for creators to connect. Yes it sure can bring people closer to one another, it certainly helps when you enjoy and feel what’s been created. It worked really well with Mosi.
How did you connect with the project 'Ocean without Shore', what's your felling about it? What's your take from its lyrics / theme?
TH: I loved the string arrangement in this project. Violin was my first instrument so I kinda have a soft spot for it. Its lyrics for me is about unity. Uniting to make a difference in the world. This project speaks to me a lot as I love messages of hope and change for betterment which are reflected in this song.
What's your musical goal and what you hope to achieve with your music?
TH: To spread positivity and real life honesty through my music to as many people as I can who will listen.
This is what Mosi wrote about you in his brief write up on his FB page: “She is the soul of vocal soul. Tehillah reminds me of Nina Simone, and just as unique. A musical talent that the world of music should pay attention to and hear her more”. What’s your reaction on that?
TH: I’m touched! It is nice being acknowledged in that way by such a well achieved writer. I’m pleased that I could voice and add my vocal melody to this delicate track.
For those who would like to follow you, tell us about your forthcoming materials and official pages.
TH: It’s a very busy season for me doing plenty of live gigs, but lots of new material coming out next year, so just wait and see what’s in the pipeline at the moment. Everyone can follow me through my official website at www.tehillahhenry.com – links to my social sites are there too and all my current songs are available on Spotify and iTunes.
