Te Kainga Marire garden. One of my favorite things is visiting private gardens and there are countless opportunities in New Zealand (check out the New Zealand Garden Trust). I met the owner of this home and garden, Mrs Poletti, who, with her husband, built this garden from the ground up beginning in 1972. When I arrived, she was tending the vegetable garden and was gracious enough to give me a mini tour and history of many of the plants.
