Now that we're close to chapter 5's release, is there anything else you want to share about teleshuffle before you start working on the next one?
I particularly wanna know more about Noelle, Gaster, and Jevil...
havent been in the teleshuffle brain space for a hot moment, and also i am being boiled and can't think, so there's nothing in specific i can think of.... but i drew the ones u were asking about ^_^ happy deltarune eve eve
ok got friend's permission so here's the swaps for the kids in the third iteration of "we shuffle around the Deltarune cast after every chapter but never have any idea who will be important so we have to redo it again", teleshuffle. one note about this is we decided it'd be interesting if the holiday family kids "stayed together", so they take on different plot roles but are still the kids of the mayor and their husband (and also Kris is there)
Ralsei is in the role of Kris - a long time ago, he had a friend, and he made a terrible mistake. a family friend with a belief in prophecy and a longing for miracles offered him a way to make it right. shadows knit around pieces of a stolen vessel - will it be enough to hold the light?
Kris in the role of Noelle - youngest of the Spamton-Tenna siblings, if only barely compared to Noelle. Kris has had a difficult time, going from the foster system to a stable family only to lose their new parents before they could even really know them. now adopted along with their siblings, but feels out of place and uncertain, especially as they realize they're the least talented in a family made for showbiz. lost a dear friend a long time ago.
Noelle in the role of Berdly - With Dess moving out Kris doing poorly, Tenna sick, and Spamton rarely home, has taken it upon herself to try to hold the family together as a beacon. always there to help Kris whether they strictly want her help or not.
Berdly in the role of Asriel - is in college so we don't have to think about him
Asriel in the role of Lancer - pending, but definitely going to be spoiled as hell,
Lancer in the role of Ralsei - pending again. why is small boy here
and then the two out of the loop that just swap:
Dess in the role of Susie - taking a gap year before college that seems to be stretching out further and further. moved out of the house to a studio apartment, rarely visits even though it's close. increasingly fed up and frustrated with the small town she seems inevitably stuck in. wants to do anything to shake things up
Susie in the role of Dess - beneath the town, forgotten by all but a few and loved by even fewer, the dragon lurks and waits.
so queen is one of my favourite deltarune characters and even though i'm not super in a deltarune headspace right now i do love to think about her so i will do my best to elaborate.
(drawing from ken)
i thought it would be really interesting to knock her out of a position of power and then put someone else with very strong ideals in her old position - she has no control and she wants it so fucking bad because the guy in charge is USELESS and she could do so much BETTER!!!
unfortunately i can't really talk about her in this au without talking about ramb (another of my favourites) but i swear to god i am not making her arc about a dude, ramb is a woman to me. toby fox gave us nothing so i will give us this one thing. he's butch please believe with me. we started talking about ramb as head (governer) (guv'na) of cyber city and when i realised the potential contrast between the two of them it really fascinated me.
at a baseline they both want the same thing: for lightners to be happy. they're even focused on one kid each: ramb with kris, queen with noelle (which stays the same despite the shuffle). however, ramb stops there and doesn't really think much about other lightners, much less other darkners. noelle is very important to queen but queen cares a lot about lightners as a whole, even though she's willing to use other darkners as tools to get her way. ramb cares about NOTHING but kris - not other lightners, not other darkners, and certainly not himself. queen's vision of a world where every lightner is perfectly happy is one where she's at the centre of it, she's the one who got them there, they're happy because of her and their continued happiness is because of her. ramb is barely a figure in his own fantasy of kris' happiness. he wants them to like him, but if he could make them happy and fade away completely he would be completely fine with that.
this drives queen INSANE. she thinks he's fucking STUPID. you could even say she doesn't think lightners could find happiness by themselves, without darkners, without her. she finds this selflessness of ramb's, ultimately, supremely selfish. sacrificing everyone and everything in the name of one kid's happiness is simply not good enough - that temporary buzz will fade. they'll always need another page to scroll. if you're not there for the long term you're not there at all - and that's even without getting into the fact that he's just focused on one kid, not lightners as a whole.
(of course her views on lightners and her willingness to use other darkners as pawns also SUCK BADLY. both of them are not good to the people around them and need to be stopped. neither of them deserve dominion over others.)
i don't think this interaction could come into nearly as much focus in canon - by the time ramb's around, queen's relinquished control, and even if you headcanon him into appearing in castle town after all she would have no reason to give a shit about him - so it really interests me in teleshuffle!
so all that's why she's seeking to undermine him. i could probably talk more about details of like what she's doing and stuff but i'm really sleepy and if i don't post this now i never will. crawls back into my hole
