STOP INVALIDATING ME OMFG I REALLY AM A PHARAOH AND YOU DON’T GET TO TELL ME OTHERWISE OMFG UR A PIECE OF SHIT OK MY BELIEF IS MY CHOICE
In my view, hers is not an incorrect assumption. hers is one i wholeheartedly agree with. but people have opinions and beliefs and i don't understand why you can't just let people be.
"In my view” mine is not an incorrect assumption. I really am an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who returned from the dead to save the world through children’s trading card games. People have opinions and beliefs, I can continue to believe the Earth is the center of the Universe if I want to and I don’t understand why you can’t just let that be.
you're literally devaluing a girl's life by invalidating her sexuality and gender. how someone identifies is their choice, and is the easiest way of expressing how they feel. how can you not see that as putting her down?
Oh! I know this game! Then I identify as a sexy Egyptian Pharaoh! Worship me, fangirls! Because I say so! My identity is my choice, naturally I can make up anything I want to and as long as I believe it, it must be true!
you can't keep that shit to yourself. and if you're the self proclaimed expert you say you are, I'm sure you know that even attempting to invalidate a mentally ill person's identity really can do nothing but hinder recovery and hurt. so thanks.
When did this become about ‘invalidating a mentally ill person’s identity?” If the person in question is actually mentally ill, are you saying that supporting their incorrect assumptions is the way to help their recovery? Is that what’s going on here?
I'm not screaming stop invalidating me. shockingly, i care very little of your notions. but whatever your motives, putting people down is never the way to go. so what if you believe someone's nuts for thinking something? i just don't get why
Okay, sure, I’ll assume your hard-on for caps lock is an aesthetic choice.“Putting people down” lmao okay. I guess that also means Nicholas Copernicus was being a mean-ass bully to the Catholic Church when he suggested that the Earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around. You’re putting words in my mouth, no one is calling anyone “nuts.” Where do you even get that assumption?
and where do you think all that research and credibility came from? people. our culture moves so fast that people often get left behind ( like you, obviously ). do you believe in asexuals? is that something you believe in?
Research and credibility comes from experts who spend years earning Ph.Ds in Psychology, biology, and biochemistry, are trained in recognizing behavioural identifiers, genetic markers, and relationships between the two. Behavioural scientists, and psychologists set up carefully controlled studies in which they can elliminate confounding variables, observing naturalistic behaviour, and case studies, then publishing their findings in aggressively peer-reviewed journals where other scientists can critique their work. In the scientific community it’s normal process to aggressively challenge previously proposed theories. Once they pass rigorous examination and critique they are generally considered accepted. If you’re asking me directly, it’s not about what I ‘believe.’ Belief has nothing to do with science I’ve read a few of the theses written by Anthony Bogeart (the currently ‘leading’ academic expert in asexuality) and I have to say even as an undergraduate student I’m not all that impressed. I know a bad psychology paper when I see one. However, people vary widely in their libido and sex drives, and because I myself know people who are perfectly happy and content in relationships without sex I tend to think there’s at least some credibility to it. I would like to know more about the causes behind it and how genetic and environmental factors interact to produce the behaviour. However, more research needs to be done on the subject because as long as it’s being pushed solely on places like Tumblr by people screaming “STOP INVALIDATING ME!!” No one is going to accept it as a legitimate spectrum.
WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO ATTACK SOMEONE FOR THEIR IDENTITY? you worked out someone made up the word demisexual. well fucking done. now you can crawl back into your fucking bigot's hollow and wank yourself off until the apocalypse.
SJW Checklist:
“Science makes you a bigot!” Check.
“Empirical evidence invalidates me!” Check.
“My identity depends solely on this one idea and if it turns out to be wrong, I don’t exist!!” Check.
“Disagreeing with me in any way makes you a bigot!” Check.
“Instead of civil academic debate, let me attack you SCREAMING IN CAPS because that will surely make me more credible!” Check.
Congratulations, keep screaming over literally nothing and expecting people to believe you.
my god do you even know how petty and ridiculous you sound? no one fucking CARES if you don't think it's real. IF SOMEONE IDENTIFIES AS SOMETHING THAT'S THEIRE BUSINESS AND NOT YOURS.
teleterrified said:and besides, even if it was made up on a forum, you know what? EVERYTHING WAS MADE UP. THE WORD HETEROSEXUAL WAS MADE UP. sometimes you see something which describes you and go YES THAT'S ME.
It’s amazing how the only time I ever get this kind of shit is when I use science - which is supposed to strengthen credibility - to question the stupid ‘demisexual’ trend. No, that isn’t how it works. Sexual preferences are not sexualities. If a forty-year-old woman one day decides she has a preference specifically for young teenage boys, and decides to identify as ‘adoescentsexual’ that doesn’t make her correct.‘Everything is made up:’ Sure, just as the concept of a geocentric solar system was ‘made up.’ That doesn’t make it correct. The difference between ‘demi’ and ‘hetero’ or even ‘homo’ is that demi isn’t backed by credible research or empirically supported at all. The way to establish a new concept as fact or a social norm is to back it with research. That is how you get people to accept things, not by screaming that it’s true because you say it’s true. Until someone comes out with actual literature on the subject I’ll continue to live in the real world where we use science to support our claims and not throw “Just believe me or you’re a piece of shit!” tantrums.
