In my view, hers is not an incorrect assumption. hers is one i wholeheartedly agree with. but people have opinions and beliefs and i don't understand why you can't just let people be.

Research and credibility comes from experts who spend years earning Ph.Ds in Psychology, biology, and biochemistry, are trained in recognizing behavioural identifiers, genetic markers, and relationships between the two. Behavioural scientists, and psychologists set up carefully controlled studies in which they can elliminate confounding variables, observing naturalistic behaviour, and case studies, then publishing their findings in aggressively peer-reviewed journals where other scientists can critique their work. In the scientific community it’s normal process to aggressively challenge previously proposed theories. Once they pass rigorous examination and critique they are generally considered accepted.If you’re asking me directly, it’s not about what I ‘believe.’ Belief has nothing to do with science I’ve read a few of the theses written by Anthony Bogeart (the currently ‘leading’ academic expert in asexuality) and I have to say even as an undergraduate student I’m not all that impressed. I know a bad psychology paper when I see one. However, people vary widely in their libido and sex drives, and because I myself know people who are perfectly happy and content in relationships without sex I tend to think there’s at least some credibility to it. I would like to know more about the causes behind it and how genetic and environmental factors interact to produce the behaviour. However, more research needs to be done on the subject because as long as it’s being pushed solely on places like Tumblr by people screaming “STOP INVALIDATING ME!!” No one is going to accept it as a legitimate spectrum.

It’s amazing how the only time I ever get this kind of shit is when I use science - which is supposed to strengthen credibility - to question the stupid ‘demisexual’ trend. No, that isn’t how it works. Sexual preferences are not sexualities. If a forty-year-old woman one day decides she has a preference specifically for young teenage boys, and decides to identify as ‘adoescentsexual’ that doesn’t make her correct.‘Everything is made up:’ Sure, just as the concept of a geocentric solar system was ‘made up.’ That doesn’t make it correct. The difference between ‘demi’ and ‘hetero’ or even ‘homo’ is that demi isn’t backed by credible research or empirically supported at all. The way to establish a new concept as fact or a social norm is to back it with research. That is how you get people to accept things, not by screaming that it’s true because you say it’s true. Until someone comes out with actual literature on the subject I’ll continue to live in the real world where we use science to support our claims and not throw “Just believe me or you’re a piece of shit!” tantrums.
