(switching to English so hopefully it's more comprehensible cause it's a complex topic) Argentina's tendency to "hoard wealth" has a rich and complex history but basically back in 2001 a massive economical crisis hit the country and in order to stop the economy from collapsing onto itself the government had limited cash withdrawals from banks at 250 USD per week in a controversial move known as "el corralito". This is turn bred a hoarding instinct that affected all social classes equally (those who had cash reservoirs instead of putting their savings in a bank account lucked out).

After they lifted this naturally everyone withdrew all their money and exchanged it for dollars, causing the worth of the argentine peso to instantly drop 300% in value. Anyways the social consequences were that:

1. No one trusted banks anymore

2. The whole thing felt apocalyptic as fuck so everyone learned how to maximize scarce resources and not splurge

3. Ongoing economical crisis: from the establishment of the Corralito to today, the worth of our currency is estimated to have dropped over 200000% (yes I do know how percentages work. this is the actual number) and is still sinking.

In short, argentinians have a very survivalist instinct when it comes to spending money and how to spend as little as possible. It's completely logical that this materializes in Franco's behavior regarding money. He never claimed to be poor (that's just a meme we blew out of proportion), he just finds it very hard to make big expenses that are not essential to him. It's a cultural thing. It's also partially a bit but is a relatable bit to an argentinian. I understand that it could be seen as obnoxious anywhere else, which is why he mostly plays this bit for latinoamerican media and aimed to latinoamerican culture.

Ironically I remember El Corralito from watching the news with my mom, it was mentioned practically everyday. I've been reading a little about it (just the wiki page) and damn de la Rúa and his govmnt made quite the damage to Argentina no? (I guess they were trying to combat a crisis and keep the convertibility between dollar and peso?? I would need more time that the one i have right now to understand this properly tho) It seems like a very scary time to go through anyway, and repercussions probably are still felt today, 200k percent is crazy 😭😭😭

I do understand the bit now. Without the context it did seem a strange ongoing joke to make, it made sense as a rookie by what I know about Franco's way into F1, but seemed odd to continue it once he's a seasoned driver who gets paid in the 6/7 digit range. Also it's true i've seen mostly clips in spanish of him commenting it ("es trucha la remera" me mató la primera vez que lo vi jaja)

Funniest bit is she really did do a whole netflix documentary on her endorsing Hilary Clinton on the election against trump via a couple of anti trump tweets? and most of the documentary SOMEHOW revolved around that little action if I recall correctly as an ex swiftie. Also the song miss americana and the heartbreak prince is about how much of a democrat she is which is funny because she compares it to a romance? and there's like a couple sports references thrown in there so it's like. The irony is not lost on me.

Also worth nothing that since breaking up with joe alwyn her first relationship was with fucking. Matty Healy who needs to go die in a ditch 🙏 so idk why people thought Kelce was going to be different. Just because she used to play at being a democrat once before (which is questionable in its own way) doesn't mean that her fans can extrapolate from there her current political views. she's literally a billionaire now. shit changes.

yes i remember seeing the straight 30 year old white billionaire woman begging her rich father to let her come out or insinuate she was a democrat... also isn't she surrounded by openly trumpie friends lol? the fabricated persona of t swift neutrality fascinates me, i watch her do all of this like when you watch your favorite hero get captured by the villain im like oh no! how is she gonna get out of this now??!
