[Whiskey Confessional]: Is there anyone that Tellanar has a crush on?

The customs inspector shakes out the wooden match he’s used to light one of his hand-rolled cigarettes. “Crushes are for schoolchildren, eh?” He grinds the burnt match to ash in his long fingers. “Some indulge in passionate affairs. I prefer t’ keep things simpler. Less messy. Y’ knock boots, then head on home.” He takes another pull from his flask and wipes his mouth on his sleeve.

How were they as a student? Favorite / Least favorite subject? Do they like to read? If so, what?

The training that goes into making a crown assassin is extensive, and only the most attentive and adaptable recruits make the cut. Tellanar is highly intelligent, far more than most would assume thanks to his Dalaran lower working class speaking pattern. He proved to be a dedicated and driven student. He absorbed concepts readily, and those he wasn’t able to grasp immediately would be studied with single-minded zeal until he mastered them.  Were anyone to look into his public records at the university he attended, one would find a number of positive citations from his instructors praising his dedication, drive and initiative.

His favorite subject has always been that of people: what motivates them and how they react to things has always fascinated him. Coming in a very close second is his interest in the enchanting arts. He’s a natural at this, and has devised countless devices with many clever and cunning users the Magisters never intended. Third, his fascination with poisons, toxins and drugs of all types. Call it a lethal interest, a siren call to better understand the way a life can be snuffed out in a moment’s notice.

His least favorite subjects would be applied sciences such as  Environmental studies and forestry, and Divinity. He’s a city boy through and through, and he’s never been a follower of the Light.

The Man of Masks’ love of books is well-known in the Underworld. Rumors still circulate about a century-old tale involving a ship’s captain who bought Moonflame’s good will with a cargo of rare books, but it’s never been proven. Tellanar does not have time to read all the things that he’d like to, but when he does read, it’s for research purposes or escapist things like high adventure.

What sorts of people draw them? What sorts of people repel them?

Two types of people draw him:

1) Competent, intelligent, loyal people who value their associates.

2) Those who genuinely need aid, and are unable to help themselves.  Note that this doesn’t apply to everyone – ordinary people who are trying their best, and still struggle against odds that are stacked against them, are the ones who draw his attention. Fools need not apply, he does not rescue people from their own stupidity. If Tellanar takes an interest in someone, it’s because there is a quality he sees in that person that should be nurtured and honed.

😳:What embarrasses your muse?

Being caught completely by surprise, especially when it relates to the actions of others that he’s failed to predict, or when it involves information he should have at his fingertips and just doesn’t.  He prides himself on his perception, and to be shown up in either of these areas mortifies him.

Deadnettle: How would your character want to die?

“What y’ want and what y’ get are two different things, hawk.” Tellanar leans back against the bannister of the stairwell he’s  perched on, and draws a leg up to wrap his hands around his knee. “Were it up t’ me, Death’d come nice and welcome, like an old friend coming ‘round t’ visit while I’m tucked up in my favorite chair b’fore th’ fireplace. But that won’t happen with how my life’s lived.  My time’ll come, and th’ end won’t be a pretty one.”

Tellanar knocks some ash from his cigarette as he considers what he’s gleaned from the woman he’s recently met. “Hrm. Everyone’ll compliment her looks, and I’ll not be that shallow. She’s clever, th’ way she draws others in. I’ll wager not many notice, which is all t’ her advantage, eh?”

Fadeleaf:Is there a detail about your character that has become less pronounced over time?

Yes indeed. In his younger years, Tellanar was a very angry, very bitter and scarred young man.  The tortures he’d suffered left him in pieces, and he lashed out at any and every one around him.  All that changed when he was sent to Quel’thalas, and Phaeron took him in hand.  The old man spent many, many months earning Tellanar’s trust, and molded him into the thoughtful, careful man he is today.  That anger has never really left Tellanar, though: there’s times that it seeps or gushes out, usually in response to some bitter disappointment or some wrong he’s not able to tolerate. When this happens, he’s quick to bury it down deep or vent it at a target truly deserving of his rage.
