Delphi
Spirit of Pythia
In Acts 16:16–18 we read of Paul and Silas casting out a spirit of divination from a slave girl who tells fortunes at the Temple of Delphi. While most translations say that they cast out a "spirit of divination." What the Greek actually says is that cast out a "spirit of PYTHON." Intriguingly, a Temple had been built on the spot in honor of Gaea (Earth). In this Temple, was a young girl who told fortunes. According to legend, Gaea had a son named Pythia (or “Python”). Apollo killed the giant snake, Phytia (Python), and thereafter the Temple was dedicated to Apollo. Paul cast out the spirit of Pythia from the young slave girl. I wonder if this snake that Paul cast out is symbolically related to the snake in Eden. Paul and the Slave Girl in Philippi - Biblical Archaeology Society
