The Amphitheater at Pompeii
Ian Davis (American, 1972) - Tragedy (2018)
Ruins of an Ancient Roman amphitheater in Syracuse, Sicily.
The Flavian Amphitheater. Commissioned by Emperor Vespasian c.72 AD. Placed on the site of the once extravagant, Domus Aurea, the glorious private estate of the highly disliked Emperor, Nero. The lake on this estate was drained and the Colosseum was built as a gift to the people of Rome. Opened in 80 AD and still marvelled at in 2026.
