A snowy and successful hike to Temple Crag in the Eastern Sierras
Staring at the Temple Crags by Sathish J Via Flickr: And now, for a lake with a different view. California, being an almost bone-dry state, is not known for its glaciers, or its glacier-fed lakes. Hence, when I first came across the images of the numbered lakes in the Big Pine North Fork area near the Palisade glacier, I was quite surprised - I had not expected lakes of such color in this state. Hence, when a friend of mine had permits to go backpacking here, I immediately took up the offer. And while the initial few miles of the hike were quite quotidian, the moment I caught of a glimpse of the lakes, I was taken by the amazing turquoise blue waters that filled up the rocky holes in the ground. On the evening of the first day, I tried to find a way to capture the huge prominence of the Temple Crags rising up from the lake - its giant granite massifs rising steadfast towards the sky, attracting climbers from all around to take a whack at its 5.9 climbing pitches! In the end, I found this juxtaposition of my hiking buddy staring at the peaks while standing on a rocky ledge quite compelling. John Muir Wilderness CA USA
