Sikh temple selfie

Visiting the 2011 Gurudwara Singh Sabha (ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਭਾ) Indian Sikh (ਸਿੱਖੀ) Temple along Senator Vicente Rama Avenue in the Calamba  District of Cebú City.

A Sikh temple is called a Gurdu'ārā (ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ), which means “door of the guru” (ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ) or "home of guru," Whereas in the picture behind me is the Darabāra Sāhiba, or Darabāra Hall (ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ) or prayer hall in which the Guru Granth Sahib (ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ) central holy religious scripture of Sikhism is located.

Sikhism began in the 15th century through the teachings of Gurū Nānak (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ, 1469–1539) in the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent. And in the Philippines, Sikhism was established by small group of Punjabi migrants in 1929. With the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, more migrants fled the turmoil to settle in the Philippines, leading to current number of  17 Gurdwaras in the country.

This picture was taken circa 2025, during my regular explorations of local historical landmarks around Cebú to get to know my new hometown.
