Did you guys know that Kazan is about 150 years older than Moscow. It is officially founded in 1005 and it is one of the oldest cities in Russia. It has over 30 universities and has a great nightlife. The name comes from the Turkish and Volga Tatar word Qazan and it means "kettle". It has an officially registered brand "The Third Capital of Russia"

The Temple of All Religions, Kazan, Russia. This beautiful city was our first stopover on the trans-Siberian trip last year. Renting a city bike for the day, some of our group took off to visit this iconic structure just outside the city. Started by local artist and philanthropist Ildar Khanov, he had the idea to house all religions in one building. I don't consider myself a religious person and I think one should do and believe whatever works for him/her. Just don't be an asshole and you're good to go. So I think this whole concept is pretty cool. Inside, there are rooms for all different kinds of religions, decorated accordingly. A very unique place and well worth the visit, if you have the opportunity. This is what Wikipedia says: The temple of all Religions is a unique architectural complex in the Staroye Arakchino Microdistrict of Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia. It consists of several types of religious architecture including an Orthodox church, a mosque, and a synagogue, among others. It is currently under construction since 1992, started by local artist and philanthropist Ildar Khanov. The structure serves as a cultural center and a residence for Khanov and his assistants. The structure is not an active temple of any religion, but rather, as Khanov describes its mission, a "temple of culture and truth". It has become a popular landmark in the city of Kazan, which takes pride in the peaceful combination of different cultures (Islamic Tatar culture, Orthodox Russian, and others). The Temple is visited both by tourists and by people seeking Khanov's help.
