Sublimation vs Repression, or, How Valjean and Javert Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Cock because I SNORTED
You and @white-throated-packrat both asked about this (and, packrat, you have heard me talk about, just not under this name). This is the filename for the portion of the outline of Temporal Powers, my time agents fic, specifically about the Valvert plotline.
I'm breaking that story down for parts now--the Latin pun I got "Chanticleer" out of was one of the only salvageable parts of the ExR plotline, most of which is now way out of line with how I see the characters.
My understandings of Valjean and Javert, however, have changed in ways that still work with a lot of the storyline I had in line for them. I'm still working out whether I want to keep the time agents setting, which I did a lot of worldbuilding for, and either completely redo the Amis portions or rewrite it without them, or whether I want to remove the central portion of the Valvert plotline, which is a Canadian Shack fic that takes place well outside the timebase anyway, and make it its own story. (Or, possibly, both.)
What I have so far is a pretty incoherent stream-of-consciousness ramble, but, here, have a representative excerpt:
So Javert has picked up on Valjean's unwillingness to really engage physically without picking up on the reasons. And now everything breaks loose, and he steps back just enough to look at Valjean-- who is breathing hard now, who is breaking a sweat, but none of it is reaching his eyes-- and he says “If you don’t want me--” and Valjean grabs him by the sleeve and holds him there, pleading with his eyes not to leave him. Javert leans right into his face, studying him, for a long moment. “Then give me what I’m due,” he says. And instead of a kiss, he bows his head and buries his face in Valjean’s chest-- and, when Valjean, still breathing hard, still doesn’t move, he takes Valjean’s hand and claps it against the nape of his neck, and falls to his knees, holding it there for a long time until Valjean gets the message and brings a slight pressure to bear with his fingers-- a slight pressure, and then a firmer, until his hand stops shaking.
